    External Hard drive for media

I have an external hard drive that I used to play movies. (I use the media player app)

I also used a flash drive for the same thing.

since the new update my xbox will no longer acknowledge the media files on my external hard drive. it will recognize that I have another storage device, but wont let me play or even see the files.

I am still able to use a flash drive to play files but I am wondering why I cant use my EHD.

    any ideas?

    :)

    Issues with installation

I'm gonna be more specific: the game doesn't accept installation on external storage. Whether it's flash drive or external hard drive, the game isn't meant to install on external storage connected through USB just like Need for Speed Rivals on Xbox 360.
You need to install it on an internal hard drive (media hard drive). The link I provided to you aren't external hard drives; they're internal hard drives for the Xbox 360:

Xbox One no longer recognizes my external hard drive's media content after the update

Before the update I had no issue at all plugging my external hard drive in and using the "media player" app to watch everything. Ever since I downloaded the new update when I launch the media player app I get the "No devices found" message. Is this a known
    issue? Are there any solutions?

The external is a Seagate 1TB external hard drive.

I should note here it recognizes my hard drive as a storage device, but no longer the media content on it.

  5. You might have to format the hard drive again.

My External Hard Drive has just vanished, Worked fine yesterday just switched my xbox on and noticed that my storage percentage was different, checked and my external HD was not detected.

I have booted and rebooted in all ways possible even tried the device in the different USB ports, I also check the device on my PC it was detected there.

I got 1TB of games on there, Im really hoping this is an update issue?

    Anyone else have any ideas?

Sorry to hear it. Can you please try holding the power button on the console for 10 seconds until it shuts down then unplug all cables from the console and let it sit for 10 minutes.

Hopefully the drive will be recognized when you plug it back in.

How do you add a new external hard drive and format it to the Xbox One? We ran out of memory.

They should be plug and Play,

As long as the drive is USB 3.0.

Plug it into one of the USB ports and follow instructions on screen, should format the drive for you.

Once connected you will be able to move game files to the new drive to free up space. you will also have the option to install new games to the new hard drive.
