External Hard Drive causing Xbox to loop after new update

Went to use Xbox today and the console was in a boot loop (Xbox One green screen and every time the 'E' appeared on screen it would freeze and restart), I unplugged the power supply and did a hard reboot (held power button for 20 seconds). After unplugging
the hard drive Console booted normally and the new update was installed, as soon as I re-plugged in the hard drive it would start to reboot again.

Basically left with an external (Samsung M3 500gb USB 3.0) that no longer works, might be a bit of a longshot but is it possible to save the external if I can't connect it to the Xbone to reformat it?

new update

well after updating my xbox my external hard drive keeps telling me its ready every 5 secs its seems to not like the update after restarting xbox a few times with out hard drive plugged in the plugging it back in seems to do the trick so far .it kept hanging
every time if would say external storage is ready if was fine before update .

so far it seems to be working but they might want people to know to unplug external storage before running the new update

broken xbox update

My xbox one no longer recognizes my external hard drive after the update.

Hey Radn0mkila! You will most likely need to lose the contents of the drive when reformatting it. Post back and let us know how it goes!

Could be the external hard drive causing the issue then it won't be the first time I seen errors appearing after updates on external hard drives. Try installing it on internal drive instead if you can?.

Since the new Dashboard update many Hard drive and external devices will not update.. Sadly i lost out 400$ on a 8TB Harddrive cause of it

If you recently updated your console with the February 2020 update, it has bricked external hard drives world wide and Xbox Support refuses to acknowledge that the last update is causing an issue with external hard drives. No games will download, install,
or launch from external drives since the update. They've known about this for close to a month.

I have this same problem but with an xbox one. Right after the update the external hard drive wasn't being detected. Tried with a brand new drive with the same result.
