External hard drive affecting xbox live

I recently bought the Western Digital My Passport Ultra 1gb for my xbox one. I formatted it and did evwrything i was supposed to but i cant connect to xbox live. It says im connected to the internet and when i test my connection it says everything is all
good but i cant sign in and i get the "having trouble connecting?" Message on the home screen. Is anyone else having this problem and is there any solution to it?

External Harddrive on XBox One - Odd thing happening

It won't affect anything if the dlc is on a different hard drive. I've got a few games, like BF4, that are on my externals and their dlc is on either an opposite external or the interior hard drive.

if adverts for "compatible" external hard drives are any indication it would seem the external storage patch should be coming some time soon although I note it wont be in the first patch released.

Does the problem still occur if you disconnect the WD My Passport drive from your console? Did you move/download anything on the drive or is it still empty? Is the drive recognized at all? I would contact the live support of the console to get more info,
advice and possible solution of the problem.

Sorry to hear it. Have you tried power cycling the console by holding the power button on it for 10 seconds until it shuts down? Are you connected via wireless or ethernet? If connected wireless have you tried ethernet? Is the external drive USB 3.0?

 

Hey captain_wd. The problen seems to linger after i disconnect it. It takes a while for things to come back to normal. The drive is still empty. The drive is recognized. I contacted microsoft and they didnt help. Also for some reason my tv app is affected
now too. I plugged my hard drive in to mess with it and see if i could find a solution and ever since my tv app doesnt work. My cable box works fine when its connected directly to the tv but on my xbox it akips, freezes and even closes the app which i have
never seen before.

Onyx i have tried power cycling and it did nothing. Im connected wirelessly and yes it is usb 3.0

 

That is odd behaviour then. Can you try deleting your profile from the console and then redownload it to see if that improves the issue?

 

I dont see how the profile would make a difference. I cant even sign in with the hard drive connected
