    I think he's asking if it'll be able to use an actual optical external disc drive, and not a hard disk drive.

    I don't believe the Digital One S will support optical. I haven't seen anything saying it would.

    You can attach external drives just like you can any other Xbox One. The disc based games would be the only ones unusable even if already installed to drive you need the disk in the drive to play.
