    External drive not detected


    So I turned my regular Xbox One console on today (it’s not an S or an X), and my external hard drive does not appear in the storage menu of the settings, nor is anything on it available for me to use. I followed all the steps in the troubleshooting guide
    and none of it worked. When checking for system updates as part of that guide, I noticed my console had done an automatic update today. Could that be part of the issue, a bug in the new update? I know this one included support for keyboard and mouse, so could
    that be messing with how the USB ports detect external hardware?

    Hi ItsOminousCloud,

    Is the drive being detected under Storage? If it is not then try the following link please:

    Troubleshoot external storage detection on Xbox One

    I would recommend connecting the external drive to a PC/Laptop and if it is detected then what needs to be done next is a reset to the external drive itself.

    1. Plug the drive into the port on the PC or Laptop

    2. Go to files explorer

    3. Locate the drive (is it detected)

    4. If detected, right click then format

    This will wipe the drive. After, eject the drive then plug the drive back into the console port

    Side Note: it may have you format to match the console in NTF format
