  1. External drive detection problem on xbox one

A few months ago, my dad let me use one of his 1TB external hard drives for my Xbox one. It worked fine until a few days ago when my Xbox stopped detecting it. My Xbox's USB ports aren't broken because my wired controller works fine. The drive itself isn't
broken because my PC detects it. Why won't my Xbox detect it and what can I do to fix it?

    :)

External drive detection problem on xbox one

I'm having this issue as well. Been using an external 1 TB for over a year now and never had a problem until tonight. My Xbox won't connect to the internet or controllers if I turn the Xbox on with it plugged in. Five to ten seconds after I unplug it, it
connects to the internet and my controller. Once I plug it back in, the Xbox doesn't even acknowledge that it exists.

    Hey there!

Hmm. Have you tried unplugging your external HDD and then
    power cycling
your console yet? Start with that. If that doesn't work, try plugging your HDD in after you start your console to see if that helps.

Let us know if that works or not. External drive detection problem on xbox one :)

Series X wont read some external hard drives

I have this same problem but with an xbox one. Right after the update the external hard drive wasn't being detected. Tried with a brand new drive with the same result.
Same here, a recent xbox os update broke compatibility with some external hard drives.

My seagate 5tb media drive stopped being detected by my xbox one s.

Drive checks out fine on a pc with no issues, however, xbox cannot detect the same drive.

I purchased a new 5tb WD external drive and after formatting on a pc it was not detected by xbox os also.

After 2 months of research I eventually fixed the extetnal drive not detected problem.

I used the Western Digital quick format tool to format the external drive and it finally solved the problem.

My 5tb media drive is now detected every time and the initial problem seems to be due to an xbox os update and certain partition types on extetnal hard drives.

    Hi ItsOminousCloud,

Is the drive being detected under Storage? If it is not then try the following link please:

Troubleshoot external storage detection on Xbox One

I would recommend connecting the external drive to a PC/Laptop and if it is detected then what needs to be done next is a reset to the external drive itself.

    1. Plug the drive into the port on the PC or Laptop

    2. Go to files explorer

    3. Locate the drive (is it detected)

    4. If detected, right click then format

This will wipe the drive. After, eject the drive then plug the drive back into the console port

Side Note: it may have you format to match the console in NTF format

Let me know if this helps :)
