External Blu ray on Series S ???

I really feel that adding external Blu-Ray drive connectivity to Series S is a must. Those disc based games would be only playable in backwards compatibility mode. It´s not the intention to create a cheaper Series X-ish machine. It is the intention to be
able to play your old(er)- or back- catalogue of games. This would create sooooo much kudo points for Microsft for sure. I came to this while I was thinking: ¨hmmm I´d sure like to play Cyberpunk on my TV in the bedroom -a 37inch 1080p TV- ¨ But bummer, I%ve
got an Xbox One S there (One X is downstairs). The One S has been proven to be unsuitable, too weak to play that game. So a Series S would do the trick as Series X would be total overkill for the mentioned TV. Bummer 2: I´ve got the game on disc. So, no go.
Having the possibility to hook up a Blu-Ray to the Series S would solve this. I know I´m on to something here, so make it happen Phil.

Not going to happen, sorry to break it to you. It won't happen for several reasons.

Piracy. If you could have any Blu-ray drive able to read BD discs for Xbox One, piracy would be rampant. Even MS making a proprietary drive wouldn't stop it as there their drive would be open to full investigation to individuals and groups who like to break
the security of these things.
The Series S is designed for a niche section of the console market, the casual gamer, the kind of gamer that only downloads and isn't particularly interested in a large game collection, at least not at first anyway. It's cheaper because MS intends to make
back the money on digital sales. Despite it's price bracket it's not even meant for kids either as children like to trade their games, you can't trade games on a Series S.

Microsoft makes a substantial loss on these consoles right from the start, these losses are, as I said earlier, to be made back with digital only purchases. If they made an add-on drive, the cost of the Series S would be increased, it wouldn't be the same
price as it is now.

No, the Series S will not have a Blu-ray drive. All games will need to downloaded.

They won't ever release an external Blu-ray drive that you can plug in as such drives could be modified to run pirated games. It doesn't matter what security they to implement, some person or tech group would find a way to make it install pirated games.

The Series S is curious for sure. On the one hand it's an overall cheaper console for users on a budget, but if your Internet speed isn't great or you're on a connection with a data cap it could be a problem for a digital only console.

But, like I said, they won't release an external blu-ray drive.

No, right now you can't attach and use any external DVD/Blu-ray Player.

The Xbox One S have a Internal DVD/Blu-ray Player. If you have the Xbox One S All Digital you won't have a option ti use Disc only digital media.
