Experince with Powerline networking for Xbox One

Is anyone on the forums using Powerline networking when using their Xbox One for playing online or streaming from Netflix?

I have recently moved house and I keep my Xbox One in the attic which has been converted to a bed room. Obviously I have my console connected via wifi because the router is located downstairs in the living room as that is the only room that has a telephone
socket available but because of this I don't get really get a good signal. I either get really bad lag when playing online or a poor video quality when streaming Netflix.

So I am asking to the forums, What are you experience with Powerline networking? Does it make a massive improvements to your gaming/streaming experience? I get around 15mb down and about 2mb upload, So it is a decent connection where I live.

If you do use them, What are the best ones to get?

    :)

    Home network problem.

If you are in a single family home (not an apartment), look into powerline networking. It may work in an apartment, but different neighbors have caused problems for my powerline network.

Thanks for replying Steveie77, I'll most likely powerline since weird connection is better for gaming.

Wired only works out better if there's no packet loss and low latency/decent throughput.

I have used powerline networking before, from 85Mbit all the way up to 1Gbit. I've had variable success in both a small condo and a larger stand-alone home. The performance varies greatly depending on your wiring.

Give it a try, but don't be surprised if it doesn't work well. You may also want to look into MoCA bridges if your home is wired with coax and you have coax in both locations. Verizon FiOS supports MoCA. Cable companies typically don't like it.

  7. No problem. I looked into powerline networking myself (years ago) and was advised against it, too many variables regarding the wiring of your home that could negatively impact performance, too be fair, I was living in a 100yr old house.

Another option would be to contact your service provider and see what it would cost to have an Ethernet port run to your attic. I had one installed on the second floor of my current home when I first moved in, I think it was like $70-80.

Verizon is not available in the country I live in which is UK. I have Sky Broadband. Pretty decent service with good download. Just looking for an alternative method to play online.

I am also looking at this, Which version though is the question, 200Mbps or 500Mbps?

I had a room mate that used it, it was a old set that would only do 10mbps transfer, and in a house that some of the wiring was still the old 2 wire system, and he had no issues playing twitch shooters and streaming Netflix. Can't remember the brand though.

The Verizon comment was to indicate that there are some broadband and video providers which are fine with putting other protocols over the coax cabling normally reserved for TV and home Internet. Others are not.

500Mbit or 200Mbit should not matter. The 500Mbit version supports a later spec than the 200Mbit version, but is compatible with 200Mbit.

I did look into that as well Stevie but I am living in a rented house and my landlord said that I could do it but it would increase the rent. Sadly myself and housemates could not make an agreement so Powerline networking is my only choice.

I have one 200MB powerline converter with one ethernet port next to my router and a 3-port 200MB powerline converter near my entertainment center connecting my PC and Xbox One. I have no issue with connectivity. As a matter of fact I have experienced no
lag when I connect my laptop wired to my router and stream movies. I have 50MB connection and my latency is 70ms. I think they work swimmingly.

I use powerline networking for my 360 in the bedroom since it's too far to pick up a good enough wireless signal or for me to run an Ethernet cord without it being a total pain. It works flawlessly to stream HD content from my local network or apps like
Netflix. I had it setup in a different room too where it didn't work as well at first. I was able to move the source to a different outlet though and it worked flawlessly there but then stopped in the bedroom, so the outlet you're using can definitely make
a difference if it doesn't work at first.
