Existing external hard drive is now not recognized in any of the ports after the uodate

Hey there. Do you have a link to the troubleshooting steps you've tried? I'm sure you've already done this, but if not, turn the console off by going into the guide, then down to Settings, the Turn off console. When it shuts down, unplug it for 5 minutes,
and unplug the external drive as well. After 5 minutes, turn it on, but don't plug in the external drive. Let it fully boot, then plug the drive in and see if it detects it.

If that doesn't work, I've seen people have to reformat the external drive.

Perhaps your child's external hard drive is not working. Is your child's external hard drive recognized by the Xbox One? Does it turn on any lights?

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry to hear that the issue is persistent on the External Hard Drive.

Have you tried connecting the hard drive to a PC?

Does the PC recognize the external hard drive?

Does the external hard drive meet the specifications for the Xbox One?

If the problem persists, I recommend to try a different external hard drive on the Xbox if possible. One thing we want to make sure, Are the ports on the Xbox One functioning?

If the XBox did a system update, it may not recognize the external hard drive right away.

Please follow these steps:

Unplug the external hard drive, and power down the xbox.. Make sure it is not in instant on mode. If it is, then before you turn it off, make sure all the games are closed, and then hold the xbox one button until it fully shutdown (about 10 seconds).
After that, than wait 1 minute. After a minute, power on the xbox. After it loads, till it gets to the point where you can open a game, plug in the external hard drive.

If it recognizes, great!. If it does not, try plugging it into both USB ports. If one recognizes it, but the other one doesn't, then it might be your USB ports.

If not, there are two other options. Buy a whole another external drive, or reset the console.

To reset the console, go to settings, system, and reset console. Every game should be backed up to your Microsoft account, but check and clarify, because i am not completely sure.
