Evolve: Why am I still being asked for a Credit Card for FREE games?!?!

Ok, I noticed this last month on the GwG "free" game, SSX. I could not download the game, even though I have downloaded almost every free offer on Gwg since it's inception. Later, D4 had the issue, as well as MX vs. ATV for the 360. Microsoft corrected the
issue with D4, but MX vs. ATV is still locked behind the credit card paywall. I have mentioned this multiple times in the D4 thread with no answer.

Now the day comes for the Evolve Beta, and I am getting the same ridiculous message, that I have "no current payment option" attached to my account. (I will also state that I was in the "Big Alpha"...downloaded without a card attached to my account) I have
done this for very specific reasons. I don't take chances with my credit. How is this the new norm, that a credit card is needed for a "free" game, or Marketplace item?

I have been led to believe by certain support staff, that this is "for my protection". Come on Microsoft, you have many things already in place for my account protection. You have also, laughingly, told me that this will insure my safety, due to all the
recent fraud problems associated with LIVE. What do you take me for? If you have issues with fraud, why in the world would I give you more personal information, attached to my credit?

I have gotten by for may years with pre-paids, and MS Points cards. Those do not work in this case, because it is not "actual credit'.

I should not need a form of credit for something that you are offering for "free". I qualify for the games, and the Beta for Evolve, simply by having a Gold Account status. Why do you
now make your customers jump through hoops to participate in these offers?

Hey there, Kevin! I'm very sorry to see that the Evolve beta was asking you for a credit card. This is not how the game should be, however I am being told that some users are able to download it without being prompted the credit card. Could you try again
for me and let us know what's happening for you? We want to make sure it's no longer asking you for that credit card.

 

First, thank you for responding to my thread. Second, this is the same issue that plagues GwG this month...I have been asking multiple times in the dedicated D4 thread, and my posts have fallen on deaf ears.

I fully realize that this is not how the game (or "free" downloads, for that matter) "should be"...but your support staff does not. This is still an issue with MX vs. ATV, for the 360, and although you fixed it for D4, it is, as I feared only fixed for that
title. I cannot get anyone to see the common sense side of things.

Something has changed for the free games in the last month or so, and no one will recognize it. I have said this to you, and your support staff...someone needs to look in to this further, and find out why the code has changed...not just give resolute scripted
responses, like: "that's how Games with Gold is set up..." or " just put a card on your account, and you will see that you will not be charged..."

Evolve Open Beta, I am not getting prompted to enter a card.

As for MX vs ATV, it may have not been noticed because of the D4 issue being resolved. Have you posted this up in our dedicated 360 forums? Is it happening on both your console and the website? The website should ask for a card for 360 free games, however
on the console it should not. Games that do not ask for a card on the website are considered out of the norm in this case.

Post back with what exactly is going on, and we'll look into this further. :3

 

Not true...I have downloaded many games from the website for free, Including the original Gears of War, when it went up last year. As well as Darksiders 2 that was just a couple months ago. I will check it, however. (I know I tried SSX on the console, and
that was where I noted it was a problem last month.)

I have not tried the beta from the console, yet...but I will.

Not sure if you have a card associated with your account already...if you do, you would never know about the prompt. This issue only shows up for those of us that do not keep cards associated with our account.
