Every time I sign in I have to remove my account and add it again

Hi there,

I’m a casual gamer but mainly use my XBox One S as a hub for all my TV and streaming apps, Blu-ray etc. Over the course of the last couple of weeks it’s been getting very weird on me.

It started off as when I switched it on I’d be signed in (automatic sign in) but I couldn’t access my apps like YouTube or Disney Plus. It would say something like an unexpected error occurred. I read the help forums and it suggested signing out and back in again. This worked for a while and then the same problem occurred. I continued searching for a solution and a hard reset/reboot followed by unplugging was suggested. I tried this and it worked for a couple of days.

Following that the same problems are occurring but I might not even be signed in at all now. It’s got to the stage where it seems the only way I can get around it is to hard reboot (power off) then unplug after each time I’ve used it.

This is getting increasingly frustrating. Can anyone help?

By the way, I use a wired connection from my router to my Xbox One S and there is no problem with my internet.

Definitely not good. Ok, try one more thing. Remove your gamertag from the console and then powercycle it by holding the power button on the console for 10 seconds till it shuts down then unplug it for 5 minutes. During this time unplug your modem/router for at least 60 seconds.

When your internet is back up and running use your PC and download the Avatar editor app then change the hair color of your avatar.

Restart the console and re-add your gamertag and see if that helps.

If it does not then it may be that the either the console needs to be sent in for repairs or you would need to log in to https://support.xbox.com and click on Contact Us to speak with a Microsoft Advocate for more help with the account

Ok, so the problem persists. At first I reset the console keeping all my data and that seemed to work for a couple of days then I had the same issue. I turn on my Xbox, it welcomes me as if I’m signed in, but I’m signed out of or can’t even access apps like YouTube, Disney Plus and Prime video.

I then performed another factory reset choosing the option to discard all of my information and I set it up again from scratch. This again worked for a couple of days.

The unit also thinks it’s not connected to the internet giving me errors like “You’ll need the internet for this” but it’s wired to my router. I check my network connection on the Xbox menus and eventually it agrees that my connection is fine.

The last time I attempted a factory reset I got the error “unable to remove home association from this Xbox” but I carried on anyway.

Now I get the same issue I’ve been having all along. Sometimes I’m signed in on the Home Screen, sometimes not, but I can’t access any of my apps.

This is massively annoying as I pretty much use the Xbox for all my TV and film based requirements.

Please can someone help?

Sorry to hear it. It sounds like you may need to try a factory reset on the console. There is an option to keep installed games and apps and your game saves would be saved on the Cloud. If that does not work then you may need to do a full reset deleting all items from your console. Saves will still be stored on the Cloud though so you can access them again.

I'm having the same issue on my Series S. I've done the power reset and console reset, but the problem keeps happening. The only way to sign in is to remove my account then add it again to sign in that way. But it's getting to the point were I have to do it every time I turn the console on.
