Every system update deletes all captures stored on the Xbox console

Every single time my Xbox has done a system update over the last 3+ years every single one of my captures stored on the Xbox get completely deleted. If I’ve uploaded them to my profile then they will still be on Xbox live, but the version on my console gets deleted. It doesn’t matter if they’re stored on the Xbox’s internal storage or on an external storage device; they all still disappear forever. Also, you can’t access any of your captures, even the ones stored locally on the console, when the Xbox is offline. Because of this I can’t even temporarily decline the update and move all of the ones on internal storage to external storage and then unplug the external storage device to keep those clips safe while the system updates. Why does this happen and how do I keep all of my clips safe without uploading every single one of them?

Could they not make this an opt-out for people who want to keep all of their captures? I really liked all of mine and now they're gone forever. What if I wanted to view them again but Microsofts stupid procedure deleted them without my knowledge or consent?

Power cycle didn't help at all. Updating after getting internet connection seems to have caused the problem. As I understand, the system deletes captures after 30 days if they haven't been viewed or uploaded. And of course, without internet, they can't be uploaded, and can't even be viewed, as the capture and share tab is greyed out when there's no internet connection. And I'm pretty sure the system's clock was off by a year because it had had no internet for so long, so once it got internet, it must have decided that ALL the captures stored locally were too old to keep. It seems the system is set up by design to make it impossible to keep captures recorded while without internet service. I've lost 3 months worth of captures because of bad console design. Everything I captured from playing RDR2 beginning to end to 100%.

I'm having similar issues. It's like a few of my captures stored on Xbox Live are corrupt. I can't manage or delete them from my console. If I attempt to delete, they reappear a few seconds later. They are unplayable and can't be shared. New uploads will
only show in the xbox mobile app under captures but they change every time i refresh the page. Microsoft please fix!!
