evertime i plug my mic in my controller i can only hear one side but then when i plug it in...

no idea why the mods keep saying to reset the console keeping games and apps, basically your audio port on the controller is duff. if under warranty then get repaired, if not find a local repair shop or purchase another.

The next step will be for you to try and use the headset on different controllers and consoles to confirm it is not an issue with the headset itself.

In case the issue still persists, the next step would be to perform a reset on the console. To do so you will need to follow the steps below to perform a reset on the Xbox :

Settings > System > Console Info > Reset This Xbox > Reset and Keep my Games and Apps.

Note =>The "Reset and Keep my Games and Apps" option will not cause losing your games, but please be aware that you need to be completely aware of the email address as well as the password of your account before going for it because it will require you to sign in to the account.

The last option would be for you to try and request a replacement for your controller from the microsoft website online.

I have this same issue and would love to know the answer!

Playing on PC...Xbox One wireless controller is connected and working. Wired headset/mic is plugged into the controller and I can hear the game and others clearly, but MY mic does not work and they cannot hear me.

For OP - My mic starts to work when I plug my controller into my PC via USB, just have to change some PC headset/mic settings. My problem though is I CANNOT keep my controller plugged into my computer since my computer is across the room from where I am
sitting. (and no, I'm not going to get a 20 ft cord to run across the room so people can hear me!)

Hi Jason!

Your headphone should be connected to your controller because your monitor is designed for game sounds only. If you plug something to your controller, it will detect that you're listening or talking through the headset that is connected to your controller where your game chat or party chat gets transferred to it.

You could try messing around with your audio settings or change your chat mixer if that helps. It may work on party alone since there's no game sounds involve.

Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Volume & audio output.
Under Advanced, select Additional options, and then select Chat mixer.
Select one of the available options.
