About a month ago lighting struck outside my house ( I live in Missouri) Internet wasn't working for a week until at&t could come out and fix it. They fixed and the wireless worked just fine had to move some stuff around so didn't have time to hook up my
Xbox to play. When I did it did not work I was very angry. blamed at&t for it all then i figured out that it was my Xbox need some to answer my question I don't use this form very much so sorry if I post this in the wrong place. (Still hate At&t)

Ethernet Port went out

Hey all, so as the topic explains, my ethernet port went out on an older Arcade Xbox 360 model (has HDMI)

I was wondering if I could get a USB to Ethernet adapter, and plug it into one of the 360's USB ports? Would that work?

If that doesnt work, then I assume the only choice to get on Live is to get a wireless adapter? But what if I dont have a wireless router? Are there no other options?

3. 1 ring E-76

Greetings, forgive me if i'm in the wrong forum or if this has been discussed into the ground. Having difficulty navigating these forums.

So basically, I am getting 1 red ring. with an error code of e 76, which i have found out means most likely my ethernet chip was fried during a storm or power surge. I have the older white xbox with the BCM small square ethernet chip.

My question is. if i purchase the wireless adapter that plugs in usb (i think), will it bypass my error and ignore the fried chip and allow me to use the console? Or will I still have to replace the ethernet chip.

Thanks in advance,

Hey mate, I'd love to try and help, but I'm a little confused.

What do you mean by 'Can I use an Ethernet to usb adapter'? If that's some kind of device that would let you plug the Ethernet into the usb ports (wild guess), then I don't think that would work at all. Your best bet would be to get the wireless adapter,
at least you don't have to replace the console.

Sorry I couldn't be of anymore help.

Can you confirm that the ethernet port is definitely damaged? Are there any physical signs?

Have you tried connecting the Xbox to a friend's router with a different ethernet cable to check that this is definitely the case?

Question about xbox you buy in stores nowadays?

if you have the old white 360 you need to either A: plug in a ethernet cable into the jack on the back or B: get one of the 2 wireless adapters that plug into the rear USB port there is a white one with 1 aerial or a black one with 2 that has a greater range.

wired network connection issue

Hello ElectronFix, have you had a power surge at all while the ethernet cord was connected to your XBOX 360? If so it's quite possible that the Ethernet port on the XBOX 360 is fried and needs to be repaired. Alternatively if you have an XBOX 360 Wireless
Adapter you can try that out or if you have the XBOX 360 S it has wireless built into it. Let us know if that's the case. Thanks

I can't connect to my internet !

As a temporary solution, could you tell us if you can connect properly by turning off the wireless security (WPA/WPA2). If this didn't work, remember to turn on the wireless security again.
If Wireless, are you using a white or black external adapter, or an internal (Xbox 360S) adapter? Da hell ? -
I have a big white cable at the back of it.
Do you by any chance have an Ethernet cable connected to your Xbox Ethernet port? In such case, Unplug it!
