2. Wired ethernet won't work

Bought my son a new XB1 for Christmas last year. Set it up initally on wireless and it was fine. Sometime a few months later I decided to go wired to try and cure a lag issue on some games. Unplug ethernet cord from my PS4, plug it into the XB1 sitting
next to it and the XB1 won't recognize the cable. Every once in a while it will act like it sees the cable for a few seconds then it disappears and says I need to plug in a cable. Gave up and went back to wireless.

Fast forward to 3 days ago and I decided to try it again...still doesn't work. My PS4 is flawless on that exact same cable. Plug my laptop into the cable and it connects right away. Plug it into the XB1 and it's like it doesn't exist.

Moved the ethernet cable from upstairs that is used for our XB360....plug it into the XB1 and I get nothing.

Tried a 3rd cord....nothing.

Hard reset of the console...no help.

Spent a couple of hours on chat with Microsoft support and after repeating all the tests I had already done they decided my ethernet port in the XB1 must be bad. Sent me an exchange unit since I was under warranty, got it today. Plug it into the ethernet
without setting up the wifi, it starts to download the console update so I'm thinking we are good. Update gets to about 28% and hangs up. Start over...same thing. 3rd time...same thing. Set up the wifi and the update download and installs no problem.

Delete my wifi and try the cord again...nothing.

So 2 XB1 consoles, 3 different ethernet cords, and none of it will connect. I can only get on using wifi which is ok, but I really want to try and clear up my lag issues on BF1.

Please tell me there is something I'm missing.

By the way I'm on Comcast, and have a router in a networking closet in my house. That closet is hardwired to plugs in several rooms in my house, so I plug the console cord into a wall jack that is wired to my router. Works fine for every device I try in
it except the XB1.

Help!!!

Can't connect to Xbox Live

Most routers will light up when an ethernet connection is made. If the ethernet port on your xbox is the issue it won't light up on the router. Its not uncommon for a power surge to fry the ethernet port, surprisingly.
i have been trying to connect to my adapter by being wired! I does not work for some reason.
Do you have your Xbox One wired directly to a LAN interface on your router?
I have never tried to be wired until now and apparently it will not work!
Do you receive an error message, stating that you need to connect your console to a modem/router.

If you go to your console's network settings and have a look at the IP settings (IP address, Subnet mask etc.), is your console's IP address a self assign address? For example, 169.254.x.x

If you haven't already, restore your console's IP settings to default as follows:

Select Settings > Network > Advanced settings > Alternate MAC > Clear

Power cycle your console.

You may also try with a different Ethernet cable, if the current one has become defect, causing the electrical signal to degrade.

Post back and let us know how that goes.

I am having the same issue. I've tried 4 different cables and have also just tried doing the "clear" and reset. I've also did hard resets and left it unplugged for a few minutes...it works perfectly fine on wireless, just all the sudden quit recognizing
my Ethernet cord

Ethernet port not working

I am having the same problem with my xbox too. One day i turned it on and the sign in deal keep saying I was off line. I tried different cables and that did not work. I know the line is good because I can plug my laptop in and get the interent. My xbox is
about 2.5 years old. Any ideas? I really want to use my cable because I took the time one weekend and ran the cables to my location where the xbox was.

Haha yup not bad at all. And I have also tried using different wires and for some reason it won't show it being connecting to the modem as no green light flashes at all. I have tried resetting and restarting the router, but to no avail. Also I configured
my modem to be able to bypass the modem itself, yet it still wont show a green light saying Im connected to the modem.

Ethernet port not working

For the most part, yeah as long as they are pretty close, you'll reach the speeds needed.

Also, hooray for fast response on my part. 4 minutes.

Not bad, eh?
