  1. Ethernet port broken; Wireless the solution?

    Hey all!

It's been a while since I last used any online features of my 360, but the other day I went to download some DLC, only to discover that I couldn't connect to the Internet using my Ethernet cable. Needless to say, I did all the tests you might expect (testing
other devices, replacing the cord, resetting everything) and it's pretty conclusive that the Ethernet port is busted. No idea how long it's been that way, but it's that way now.

I bought the console in the US, but I live in Japan now. I contacted customer service and once they were satisfied that I had taken the right steps to confirm the port was broken, gave me a Japanese Xbox help number to contact to arrange repairs.

I could do this, but as I understand, the cost for repairs outside of warranty is about $100. The cost of a wireless adapter, on the other hand, is less than $60. With the Xbox 360 at the end of it's life cycle, I don't mind just leaving the Ethernet port
damaged and relying on wireless. But, I don't want to buy a wireless adapter if that port is broken, too.

So, I suppose there are two parts to my question:

    1) Are the Ethernet port and Wireless adapter port linked in any way, where damage to one means the other won't work?

    2) Is there any way to test the Wireless adapter port to make sure it works without first owning a wireless adapter?

    Thanks for the help!

    :)

    how to....?

I have a single ethernet port modem and no wireless router. My computer is currently plugged into the only ethernet spot and the ethernet jack on my xbox is broken and will not let me connect unless I have a wireless signal. Can you connect an xbox wirelessly
to a computer (that has wirless on it) WITHOUT an ethernet cable?

  3. Cannot connect to xbox live

i had the same problem sounds like the network port on your xbox has broken if you can get your hands on a wireless adapter you could try that but the ethernet port sounds like its had it.

Ethernet port broken; Wireless the solution?

You could say I already have an adapter automaticaly built in, and it is removable, and as far as I know as long as the problem is with the port itself, the adapter port should be fine. If you do want online, you should definitely try a Wireless adapter,
at least to see if it works.
