Ethernet NIC fails in standby mode

My Xbox One has had this problem out-of-the-box where the ethernet NIC permanently loses connectivity during standby mode. When I awaken the console it won't connect to the internet until I power cycle the console. My workaround is to disable the standby
mode and just turn off the console when I'm done. Obviously this means I don't get the advantage of background updates or the Kinect functionality, although in my case I never used the Kinect so I'm not inconvenienced.

This console shares an ethernet switch with an Xbox 360 and PS4 and that switch is connected by ethernet to my ISP's modem. Since the Xbox 360 doesn't go into standby mode, the only other comparison is the PS4 and that console doesn't exhibit this symptom.

Wired connection problem

Try to get your Xbox console closer to the modem, so you can use an ethernet cable ONLY. If that still fails, try a different cable. And if that ALSO fails, I'd guess that the ethernet port of your console might be broken.

Xbox takes extremly long to connect to the internet

my Xbox one s takes extremely long time to connect tot the internet why i put it in standby mode (15min give our take) i don't have this problem when it is in energy saving mode (it's connected by ethernet btw) my Xbox is up to date with it software

My circumstances have changed in that I had an opportunity to trade my Xbox 360 for a Wii U. So now, it is just the Xbox One and a PS4 sharing the switch, while the Wii U uses WiFi only. I tried the standby mode again on the Xbox One and this time the Xbox
One woke and got on the internet without a problem. My best guess here is that the Xbox 360 and Xbox One may have interfered with each other's communications behind the switch. Or conversely the switch couldn't distinguish the two Xbox units when the Xbox
One was in standby.

You should place the console in energy saver mode and try that. Sometimes when you resume from standby the console fails to reestablish external connections.

if you chose it in that start up selection it should be on, i feel like its off when i shut it down but i assume its in standby by the fact i just say xbox on and it springs to life instantly and i am on the dashboard within seconds.

Standby typically means powered off but still "on" (LED on the NIC still flashes, that sort of thing). At idle, the console uses ~70w. No one should be leaving it at idle 24x7.

Presumably the $0.05/day cost was computed to be for 4-8 hrs watching video (depending on electric rates).

They've mentioned that it has 3 states. On, off and standby. Question is, how do you put it in standby mode?
