Ethernet Issues And Connecting To Xbox Live

I am having issues with my ethernet port.

I have been using the ethernet cord for several months now without an issues. Yesterday and today, I tried the test testing the multiplayer connection and it says "not connected. Your network isn't set up". When I return to the network screen, it shows my
status as being wired.

So I tried draining the power out of the xbox by unplugging everything and rebooting. Still nothing. I tried clearing the MAC address along with persistent storage as directed from a xbox worker. Still nothing.

The wall outlet and the ethernet cord work perfectly after testing on my computer. I would link to wireless, but the wired is much quicker for online play.

The interesting part of the story is today after I unplugged the power to troubleshoot, it signed me onto live and let me play on live until I turned it off to leave for work...This is confusing...It only worked that one time and after returning, it won't
work after draining.

I am not sure what to do next and I honestly don't want to send in for repairs....

You could also try using another ethernet cable, but it might not be the wire.

I was having a lot of issues connecting to Xbox LIVE earlier today.. I had to connect my console to an ethernet cable just to get it to work..

 

Looks like after unplugging the power from everywhere and restarting the system worked for tonight. I will retry in the morning and update the thread. Hopefully this was more than temporary.

 

This only temporarily solves the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? It doesn't sound like the ethernet is the issue. Something in the xbox.

Just something I noticed was the power cord is still white after turning the xbox off, so it doesn't change to orange.

 

Sounds like you hav changed the power option from energy saving mode to instant on. This may cause problems with opening UPnp ports on certain routers. So try to change the power mode back to energy saving and check if the problem persists.

 

Problem is still occurring after switching. It shows that is still not connected and the network isn't set up.

 

Maybe try a system cache reset: hold the powerbutton for about 15 seconds and keep it holding even when the one turns off after some seconds. Wait for the power supply to change the color to orange and then restart the console.

Just a short question on your network environment:

Are you changing the cable between Xbox and pc or are you connected to a switch or a hub? Are you on a college or appartement network?

 

I am connected to I think a hub. I am in a college dorm with a wall outlet specific for ethernet....I tried turning back on before restarting the console and it now reconnected to live, but I don't think this is a permanent fix.

 

You may have to ask your admins if there is a problem with assigning an IP to the MAC of your Xbox. Sometimes there are problems due to MAC restrictions on their end.
