Ethernet cable plugged in and still not connecting

I already spoke with a Microsoft support guy and we did all the little things like unplugging the router and turning the Xbox on and off again and putting the settings on automatic, etc. He said the solder is probably broken and it needs to be either on
a wireless connection or replaced. I don't want to go through all that hassle, so if anyone has any other suggestions besides turning something on and off again, that would be really helpful

    :)

How to Connect Internet Cable directly to Xbox 360

Need a bit more info here like do you have a modem or is your router a modem/router combo?

The router which provides your wifi needs to have ethernet ports to connect to your 360 or you need to bypass your router and connect direct to 360 as you said you tried.

If you have a modem you need to unplug it and plug it back in and make sure the 360 is set to a wired connection and not wireless still.

if the ethernet cable you have going into your router doesnt come from a modem but directly from a drop like how Verizon Fios is set up sometimes then you should just need to make sure 360 is set up for a wired connection and not wireless.

Your best bet is to buy an extra ethernet cable which it appears you dont have yet and go direct from router to 360 and not lose your wifi in the process by skipping the router. The cable is going to be under $10

no connection after updates this weekend.

Cleared the system cash to see if that helped, but still unable to connect. It seems to me the Xbox is not communicating through the ethernet port when a cable is plugged in, but at the same time still thinks there is an ethernet cable present when I unplug
it and it blocks me from trying to connect via wireless.

    Hi,

Sounds like a hardware fault I'm afraid, is it still under warranty with your place of purchase or Microsoft?

    Hey there John!

As a "quick step" solution try reset Xbox network settings back to the defaults.

Note Before you reset the Xbox 360 console’s network settings, make sure that you write down the current settings in case you have to restore them later.

    • Turn off your Xbox 360 console.
    • Wireless connection only: Unplug the Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter from the USB port (if applicable).
    • Turn on your console.
    • Press the Guide button on your controller, go to
      Settings, and then select
      System Settings
      .
    • Select Network Settings.
    • Select Wired Network or the name of your wireless network, if you are prompted to do so.
    • Select Configure Network.
    • On the Additional Settings tab, select
      Restore to Factory Defaults
      .

    Try reset your old router.

Post back and let us know how it goes.
