  1. Ethernet cable not working

I recently purchased an xbox one, I tried connecting it wirelessly to my wifi and that failed. Turning the console and the router/modem off failed. I then bought an ethernet cable and that still failed. Can anyone help?

    :)

  2. New ethernet cable not working/possible incompatible ethernet cable

I'm pretty sure it's just a faulty cable. I got it from eBay for cheap and told the seller it didn't work so I'm sending it back for a full refund. Not a big deal.

dalisair: I already tried it on my laptop and it didn't work.

taidara: i used an STP as my original setup because I got it for free from a friend, and it works for my 360 so I didn't complain.

so back to my other question, is there any problem with using a 2-pair vs 4-pair? UTP vs STP? 26AWG vs 24AWG?

    Greetings LIVEMAGMALIVE!

I couldn't see why this new cable wouldn't work with your console, unless the cable is defect.

Do you receive the following message: "To use a wired Internet connection, make sure an Ethernet cable is connected to both your console and your router or modem"?

Could you try connect this cable to your computer.

    Thank you!

New ethernet cable not working/possible incompatible ethernet cable

    [quote user="Chrome AjacKs"]

my ethernet cable recently has stopped working on my xbox 360, and takes like 15 mins to work on my xbox one, but works perfectly on my pc. any answers?

This thread is already very old, so in the future please create a new thread instead of "reviving" old threads.

But to give you a few starter suggestions:

Please try a different cable on your console. If the new cable ALSO doesn't work on the console, it might be that the Ethernet Port on your console is defective. You might have to get it repaired or try a Wireless connection.

As per ArminatorX's answer: 2-pair works with 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, or 10/100 ports devices only. For 1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet and IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet (to deliver power over the data cable) uses all 4-pairs. In strictly terms, Cat 5 cable
need to have 4-pair of wires (1/2, 3/6, 4/5, 7/8) to be certified as such.

As for STP, this type is typically not required for homeowners, (like yourself) as most residential systems are not faced with challenges that is generated by EMI/RFI,
    in contrast
to industrial environments etc. The STP cable also require ground connection for proper performance.

    Keep us posted!

It could well be that one or more of the paired/twisted-pair cables is not terminating properly to a specific pin on the RJ-45 plug. Therefore, Could you lend an Ethernet cable from a friend and try connect with.

I'm not sure why you used a STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) cable for your previous set up.
