    eSports in the Olympics?

So I read an article with some guy (former Diablo dev) who thinks they will find their way there someday. lol

Who here thinks they would be considered a sport in the first place? Do you think they have a place in an event such as the Olympics?

I say no and it's pretty ridiculous to even think that.

Link "There's a very good argument for eSports being in the Olympics," Pardo told the
BBC in an interview. "I think the way that you look at eSports is that it's a very competitive skillset and you look at these professional gamers and the reflexes are lightning quick
and they're having to make very quick decisions on the fly. When you look at their 'actions per minute', they're clearing over 300."

    :)

    Regarding Esports:

Why doesn't Microsoft create an Esports League, specifically for the purpose of Marketing the Xbox console, while at the same time utilizing the captive audience to promote other Microsoft software and other products?

    • Create a new Esports gaming league. Microsoft ESport League (MESL)
    • Microsoft would own the league.
    • Microsoft would sponsor gaming tournaments, like Halo, or Call of Duty or Gears of War, ect.
    • Participation in the league would only occur through Xbox consoles.
    • Teams would pay entry fees to participate in tournaments (Generating Revenue for the League, which would be owned by Microsoft)
    • Corporate sponsors like Monster Energy and others could be attracted and attained which would Generate Revenue for the League, which would be owned by Microsoft.
    • Microsoft is missing out on a prime opportunity to capture a significant market share in the new global Esports market segment.
    • Esports will be larger and generate more revenue in the future than the NFL, MLB, NBA and other such leagues.
    • Esports is not limited to a few teams in the U.S. like the aforementioned leagues above.
    • I would like to work for Microsoft as the Commissioner of the League (MESL) to develop a new multi-billion dollar Microsoft Esport league/product.
    Sincerely & Respectfully,

    Brent Ballard

    eSports in the Olympics?

Yeah I agree with you, there's no place for video games in a competition showcasing the cream of athletics.

They should do a separate event called the eOlympics. Where eAthletes, compete in eEvents, while people watch and go, "e-by-gum!" I'd watch that.

  5. If they were going to implement it, it would have to be some type of virtual reality setup. Someone playing Ninja Gaiden, no matter how much of an expert they are, will never be considered, seen or thought of as a sports star.

Besides which they already have gaming tournaments around the world. This is as far as it can go for gaming I imagine.

Look at how real musicians look down on games like Guitar Hero. People spend years mastering a musical instrument, but when a game gives you a plastic guitar to press when a light flashes, they're hardly considered a musician.

Nope. There's way too many legitimate sports that should be considered before E-sports. E-athletes are awesome, but not at they Olympics.

If pinball was in the Olympics I'd bring home the gold, I'm bragging and saying this because it would be true.

Imagine MLG in the Olympics? It would be a complete camping fest and the real Olympians would be super ^*&#ed

^^ Heh ha. Pinball at the Olympics. Can you imagine the noise echoing around a stadium? It'd be nuts. But also awesome. Ten-thousand people going, "M-M-M-M-MULTIBALLLLLL!" *deafening whoop*

@Th3 Tater ~ I know right? They removed wrestling from the events a couple of years ago, and only recently reintroduced it after a big campaign to have it back. An event dating back to the hundreds of years BC/E is having trouble staying in as a sport...
and people are talking about adding video games? lol

Another thing is... why would gamers want video games associated with a huge dodgy, somewhat out-of-touch organisation with its McDonalds and Coke sponsors and its sketchy selection processes? It's as bad as, and almost as corrupt as FIFA.

Gamers and the games industry could have an opportunity to do something better, with sponsors promoting healthy foods, and worthwhile charities, with huge positive events that aren't out of reach of poorer hosting countries and such. Events bought and paid
for by companies with a stake in it, publishers, and that attract tourists to places that need it.

Why would we want to associate our thing with that Olympic thing? {XD

  10. This will never happen. I hate the idea that people call gaming a real sport. I don't see how it can be even considered a sport. Yeah you can say it needs speed, hand eye coordination and all that nonsense, but it's not really that big of a physical activity.

    eSports in the Olympics?

I dislike e-sports. It taints games that should be focused on the average gamer.

Gaming is not a sport. I enjoy watching youtube videos and the occasional 'cod championship', but it isn't in the same realm as real sports or the olympics.

I was already pretty unhappy that they were a part of the Xgames. I don't like esports of any kind and it really bummed me out when I saw they would be competing for the same kinds of medals that real athletes were competing for.

Is there a market for esports? Sure. It's a huge deal right now. But give them their own "Olympics" to compete in. They don't belong next to people who put their lives on the line for their sport.

    I don't know.

Some of these gamers sound like pretty tough guys.

Maybe they should put gamers in the Olympics.

Let them qualify via their gaming accomplishments and then let them compete in an actual sport in the Olympics.
