Error with redeeming code for Gold membership

Entered Xbox 12 month Gold membership code, it has not worked in going threw, it was recognized each time I entered it in, but each time it would say "something went wrong" and I can't find the error code in the error help section of the website. This could

Hi there,

Remeeming errors are usually caused by issues on the account itself. Be sure to check your billing information at
http://billing.microsoft.com and
http://account.microsoft.com/services after that try redeeming the code on both xbox console and via xbox.com/redeemcode

If it is still not working properly please use
http://support.xbox.com/error-code-lookup to search for any steps regarding the errorcode you are receiving.

If nothing is found then specify the full actual error message (and errorcode) you are receiving when trying to redeem the prepaid code they can help to determine a possible cause.

Thank you, I have already tried this multiple times and there is no problem with billing information. We keep getting an error, and it keeps showing us this.

You see the following error code and message when you try to redeem an Xbox Live Gold membership prepaid code or token: 80169cf9

The payment option can't be used for this purchase. Please select a different payment option or add a new one.

This error message occurs when you have an active membership but auto renewal is turned off, and the payment instrument that was used to purchase that membership has been removed from your account or is no longer associated with your membership.

Solution:

Because the payment instrument has been removed from your current membership, you will not be able to add a prepaid code or token for a membership while your current membership is still active. You must wait until your current membership has ended to redeem
the token. Membership tokens do not expire. To find out when your membership will end, sign in to your Xbox account and tap or click Subscriptions to view the end dates for your, current memberships and subscriptions.

Try and see if you are able to actually use the gold membership perks. Put in a game and see if it lets you play online. I had a friend redeem a code, give her an error and when she contacted support the code had actually redeemed.
