  1. Error when trying to update

I haven't used my Xbox 360 on live for over a year. Connected to my new network the other day and it wouldn't sign into live as it had to do an update. The following error occurred:

    Update Failed

Can't process the update. If the problem persists, go to
    www.xbox.com/support
    .

    Status Code: 40A3-4174-A080-1200-D000-0034

I've gone through the above guide and tried all the options, still gets the same error even when trying to update from USB stick.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    :)

  3. Error message when trying to update

Thanks for the response TragicSkies! I just tried connecting and downloading with ethernet cord and that did not work either. In fact I got closer getting it to download wirelessly than wired. I shut down all laptops, iphones, etc so nothing was connected
to the internet while trying to download the update. Still get the same error code. So I am at a loss at what my next step should be.

    Error when trying to update

    Greetings Dragon!

Can I have you try the following steps and let me know how that goes and we'll work from there.

Clear the Xbox system cache and repeat the process, 3 times in a row.
    Here's how
    !

Make sure the USB drive that you use is FAT formatted.

To make sure you copied the $Systemupdate correct to your USB drive. Copy the "$Systemupdate" folder from the ZIP-Compressed file to your USB drive.

Do not copy the individual files to the USB drive from the "$systemupdate" folder. If you did this correctly, Open your USB Stick on the PC with a double click, you should ONLY see the "$systemupdate" folder (with the dollar sign). And nothing else.

Turn off your console. Press and hold the sync button (the small one you use to connect your wireless controllers). While holding press the power button to turn your console on. Continue to hold the sync button until the console is completely booted up.

Go to System Settings and select Storage.

On your controller, press the following button sequence:

(This will remove a portion of the system update installed on your console).

    Press the left bumper.

    Press the right bumper.

    Press the X button.

    Press the left bumper.

    Press the right bumper.

    Press the X button.

Try and update from the USB drive.

  5. I tried everything that tiadara suggested, and the update still will not load. I get error message 417F 42FE 1600 267F C000 0185. I have not been able to load the update since 12/5. Now, I cannot do anything with the Xbox. This is very frustrating. I already
spent time with support, and the person said Xbox was aware of the problem. When will I be able to use my Xbox?

@Grandma - Can you tell us if you have the 360 version with the internal flash memory (4 GB), and if so, does this unit shows as "Unformatted"?

    Thanks in advance!

  7. Taidara, yes, it is the xbox slim with 4gb internal memory. I moved everything to a 250gb hard drive, then reformatted the internal memory, but still cannot successfully update my xbox.

Just to clarify, did you manage to format your console's internal flash memory succesfully?

Can you go to Storage and make sure the internal memory (4 GB) doesn't show as "Unformatted".

Can you also provide us with a bit more information, so that we can have a better understanding of your situation. Please read:

And post back in full detail (scroll down for the questions in bold).

  9. taidara - The internal flash memory formatted successfully. It does not show as unformatted. Here is the information you asked for:

What Country/State/Province do you live in? USA/California/San Bernardino County/Rialto

Modem brand & model number: Tareyon tj715x

Router brand & model number: Linksys WRT160N v2

How many consoles do you have connected to this router? 1 xbox

Wired or wireless (for each console): currently wired

If Wireless, are you using a white or black external adapter, or an internal (Xbox 360S) adapter?

Things you have tried: Xbox Live test, connects to server and internet, but stops at update required screen. When I hit yes, then I get message cannot update with error code 417F 42FC 1380 267F C000 0185.

Have removed and reinstalled hard drive; cleared system cache five times; moved to wired from wireless network connection; lb,rb,x,lb,rb,x; tried to install from usb and cd; so far nothing is working. I contacted xbox support last week and worked with someone
for over an hour. Nothing resolved; said I would wait until xbox technicians found the problem; as I was told that others are reporting similar problems.

    Is UPnP Enabled? Yes

Do you have a NAT error? If so, what is your NAT type? No

Any Error Codes you encounter: see above for update download from xbox live. Also error when trying to update with usb, 417F 42FC 1600 267F C000 0185, same error code for cd attempt

Who is your ISP(Internet Service Provider)? Time Warner

After you run "Test Xbox LIVE connection" press “Y” for "More Info”. In the pop-up that appears, what are the following values, if shown? (If a value below does not appear for you, just leave it blank.) Can't get to that screen since this update required
appears after I try to connect to xbox live, play a cd game, sign in.

Note: I have not had any type of problem with any previous updates, either for xbox or games. Thank you for helping.

If it's possible, try connect your console directly to your modem, instead of being routed through your Linksys, and let me know if your console can process the system update.

Before you go ahead, restore your console's network settings to factory defaults, and Power off your modem for a couple of minutes.

    Keep us posted!

  11. taidara - I connected the console directly to my modem, and the update still did not process. I got the same error message. Don't you think that with all this, and the fact that I cannot even update with a usb, that the problem is with the update itself?
    Please help.

My firm belief is that this is not an issue being isolated to the most recent system update itself, but, as in your case, where firmware and hardware doesn't compile with one or the other.

Can you try the two following methods and let me know if your console is able to process the system update properly.

The first method involves changing your console's DNS settings to google's public DNS. The second method is to have your console's HDD completely removed during the update process, and instead use a USB flash drive configured for use with the Xbox 360.

    Here goes!

Skip through the process of the system update and head towards your console's network settings.

    1. Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and then select System Settings.
    2. Select Network Settings.
    3. Select Wired Network or the name of your wireless network, if you are prompted to do so.
    4. Select Configure Network.
    5. On the Basic Settings tab, select DNS Settings.
    6. Select Manual.
    7. Select Primary DNS Server.
    8. Enter 8.8.8.8
    9. Select Secondary DNS Server.
    10. Enter 8.8.4.4
    11. Select Done again.
    12. Press the B button on your controller, and then select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.

Restart your console and try update your console as you normally would do.

Still stuck, let's try the method with USB flash drive, but before you do so, go to Xbox Network settings and restore your console's network settings to factory defaults. Afterwards, press "B" on your controller and select Test Xbox Live Connection, then turn
    off your console.

With your console powered off, safely remove the HDD and plug in a USB flash drive (configured for use with the Xbox 360) into a USB port on the front of your console. Make sure the
USB flash drive is FAT32 formatted, or configured for use with the Xbox 360, before proceed.

With the HDD safely removed, and USB flash drive plugged in, turn on your console and try update.

Let me know how that goes.

  13. Error when trying to update

taidara - I tried the update after manually changing the DNS settings, but it did not work. I then tried removing the hdd and inserted an xbox formatted usb drive, tried to update, but quickly got the error code 417F - 0000 - 0080 - 0300 - 8007 - 0070. Please
    help!

My firm belief is that your console is unwilling to process the latest system update, due to a problem with your console's hardware, and therefore, my recommendation would be to send your console in for a repair.

However, if it's possible, you could try (as the final attempt) to connect your console on a different network, to see if it can apply the system update properly.
