Error when setting up the home console

Yes, this. I once had the same issue and this is what the problem was for me, was the internet connection. To the OP: Check your internet connection or your router to make sure it's providing a good, steady signal and not dropping it. My issue was my
router was constantly going up and down; it was old and needed replacing. I got a new router, a good one, and didn't have this problem again after that.

Physically power cycle the console

1. Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will turn off.

1. Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console or the Xbox button on your controller.
   
   Note If you don't see the green boot-up animation when the console restarts, repeat these steps. Make sure that you hold the power button until the console completely shuts down.

Important If your console is in Instant-On power mode, the above steps will shut the console completely off. Instant-On mode, or the ability to turn on your console by saying "Xbox on," won't be enabled until you restart the console

Like I said in my response if it is not saying that you have reached your 5 times for switching which console is your home console and giving you a date that you can make your next switch then it is not a problem with your home console settings for your
profile.

What EXACTLY is the error message that comes up on the screen when you try and set your friends console as your profiles home console?

The message as you are wording it does not sound like an error on your profiles end it sounds more like an error on your friends consoles end.

Me and my friend got set our accounts as home consoles for some time(it all worked well). The error appeard when i deleted his account on my xbox as home console and wanted to change for anothers friend account.Now I can't set any account on my xbox as
home console and my friend can't delete my account from home console on his xbox . Messed up
