Error When Selecting The 4K UHD Resolution On Xbox One S.

I got the Xbox One S the other day and ever since I've been plagued with issues. When I first set it up I had no issues, but after turning off TV for a bit and coming back to it, the screen would either flicker black and white or the console would start
as normal but would get a broken image on screen with tiny dots everywhere followed by crackling/popping noises. I returned the console and got a new one, only to find the same problem. I'm beginning to think it's an issue with the HDMI 2.0 port on the TV,
but thought I'd make a post here in case anyone else has ran into this issue.

The TV I have is a 49 inch Sony X800D which allows 4K on HDMI ports 2 and 3. When I go to select 4K for video I get the message saying it didn't work. It then takes me to a page which shows the requirements for 4K, and green check marks next to all the boxes,
including 60Hz. It should work, but it's not. I've tried using my PS4 Pro HDMI cable on the Xbox and no luck.

Has anyone ran into this issue before?

Your information is not correct. Actually when you set the xbox one S console resolution to 4K UHD, everything on the console—Home, games, and apps—will display at 4K. 4K content is displayed in its native 4K resolution, and other content (like 1080p content)
is upscaled to 4K.

Thanks for taking the time to let us know about your situation. It's good to know that the problem is not the Xbox directly, but more of a compatibility issue. After the release of the PS4 Pro a saw and read a few articles about problems with 4K HDR working
on not only Sony's own TVs, but also with other manufactures 4K HDR TVs, see URLs below. It's my understanding that Sony has had to push out some firmware updates to get things straightened out. However, when it comes to the Xbox One S it seems that the real
threshold for 4K UHD support is
HDR10. But, of course it appears Sony dose not like to use that nomenclature. It's almost like they expected only PS4 to be connected to their TVs.... At this point, unless you can try some other third party 4K HDR device, it looks like you are going to
have to follow up with Sony.
