Error on gamertag ? (Halo MCC)

Im sorry it didn't work for you as it has worked for a couple people. And asking Microsoft about any of this has been no help at all. The whole thing is broken and i cant say im happy at how aggressive they've been at defending the obviously broken system.
Ive talk to way too many people about this and none of them have been any help and the only reason i found out how to fix it was on my own time and effort.

All i know is that it worked for me and has worked for others in the past.

Id like to tell you that i solved the problem and the story behind it.

So, i decided to make another Microsoft account and see if it said my name was available from a different account. It was so i canceled out of there and contacted support. I talked to at least 5 people and all of them were no help and told me my name was
taken even though it wasn't. They were straight up aggressive with me i i to them i knew the solution. The solution being paying for a name change to something else and then paying for another to change it back to my original name. It cost me $20 to get the
name back and they denied my refund and ghosted me on the posts i made.

I cant say this will work for everyone, but it worked for me with no help from Microsoft. Id recommend making a new account or asking a friend to see if the name is available from their side first before continuing as to not mess it up. And nake sure they
cancel out of there as well. I had to pay for two name changes because they refused to believe me when i said i knew how to fix it and didn't give me a refund. I hope you all have better luck than me.

I attempted this and it did NOT work. I am now out $10 pending a refund and the support team has been very unhelpful. I then made a fresh account and claimed the "" gamertag with NO PROBLEMS -- this is a problem with the system and my primary

I would just like to clarify how i did it just in case. Im sorry this method did not work for you.

I made a new account to see if the name was available from another account and it said that it was. So i changed my name to something else to make it available for my real account again as it kept saying i "already own that gamertag". After it was available
again i changed it back to the one that i wanted and it said it was available again so i got the name i wanted.

The reason why i checked with a different account was to make sure the name actually was available to begin with. I didn't want to pay for the name if it was taken anyway. Im sorry this method didn't work for you and i wish you the best in getting a refund

Yes I also made a new account, and saw that the GT was available. At this point, I backed out, and then paid the $10 to become Mangos4444. I then attempted to change my name to from Mangos4444 after I had "freed up" the Gamertag and it STILL
only gave me the option with the suffix. Out of curiosity, I went and tried to claim with my brand new account AND IT WORKED. So, this is clearly a problem with the system and my primary email account, and NOT a case of someone "owning" my gamertag.
Now the problem is, I have the GT, but on the wrong account with NONE of my MCC progress. This whole system is hilariously broken and nobody from Microsoft will own up to it. I have several screenshots detailing how broken it is and all the support team does
it wring their hands and "wish they could help me "
