Error message when swapping Live accounts between email accounts

    Hi,

Have followed the normal procedure in order to swap two Live accounts and their email addresses. Made a new/blank email in order to swap, etc.

But everytime I press, 'Yes, change' on my X360 I get a message saying 'Sorry, we can't change your Microsoft account now.'

I have NOT recently moved the account so shouldn't be the 30 day issue and I set up a brand new email, so theres not an issue with an existing account registered. Really don't know what to try next?!

    Please help! Thanks!

    :)

One year anniversary of the one - thanks message from xbox

I am sure whatever they give will be linked to the Xbox account message system.

I had that problem with using an old email. I switched the email through windows live. It took like 30 days to do that though. At least I get the emails now.

    Hello Alv2809,

I think there are two possible requirements when swapping an E-mail address around. Although I cannot say for certain.

Requirement 1 - The 30 day period that you mentioned (It may be a possibility that the timer is reset if you re-download your profile within this time-frame)

Requirement 2 - The e-mail address you use to swap it with must be older than 30 days for security purposes.

Still, this is what I think is going on here. But to confirm it you really will have to ask the Agents on the Xbox Customer Support to confirm that this is the problem. You can do this by visiting:

    Contact Us | Xbox Support

I once was in the same position as you. And I just couldn't swap them around. I called up Microsoft Xbox Support and that is what he told me. So I put his theory to the test and used an existing Microsoft Account/Hotmail account that was older than 30 days.
And to my suprise it actually swapped it around as opposed to the one that as less than 30 days old that I just created.

    For further help please visit
    http://support.xbox.com
but I am pretty sure the answer is in this post.

I hope you get your e-mail address swapped over soon

    Regards,

    Daniel

So did you create the second as a Microsoft Account? If you did, log into account.live.com to the second one and click security and password. Once you get past the security challenge, ensure that you had a phone number and email listed as security proofs
and neither say verify. If they do, click verify to verify them. Once that is done, try again.

Another option is to log in to account.live.com to the first one and click alias. Then click add alias and create a new outlook.com email. Then click make primary once you get to the alias screen again, then click remove under the old email and you've switched
your Microsoft account for your Xbox account Error message when swapping Live accounts between email accounts :).

if you do option 2, and your first Microsoft account email is an msn.com, hotmail.com, live.com or outlook.com, you will also be deleting that email.

    let us know what happens!

  6. That would be under the category of re-naming a Microsoft account, not switching to a different one throughthe console, just so that there is no confusion Although that's a good alternative method which wasn't stated in the question that was originally asked.
As stated before, Note: You are more than welcome to 'verify, to verify them' but if that created e-mail address falls below 30 days of age it will not work. Best thing to do when giving out advice is having at least some background information on the possible
causes to why it won't change. That is probably under the category of my least likely reasons for it not to switch.

What ever method you decide is entirely up to you. But the facts are still there for you.

Option 1. Choose a Mirosoft Account to switch to that is 30 days or older.

Option 2. Re-name your Microsoft Account with an Alias (Recommended, faster solution)

If you are unsure of what route you want to go down and want further information, you can contact Microsoft Support at anytime by visiting
    support.xbox.com/contact-us

Please also note: Something that wasn't mentioned by DHG Azazel the risks of re-naming and deleting the prior Alias. There will be a little timeout period before you will be able to sign up using the newly deleted alias. Removing your old alias is not needed
if you wish to keep both. While the newly one you have created is set to primary that is the E-mail that will be displayed on your Xbox 360 Console. And the benefits of this is you will still be able to check your old e-mail account for new e-mails. Whilst
having the ability to sign into both aliases with the same password either at outlook.com or xbox.com (including billing.microsoft.com/account.live.com) Please be very cautious when considering removing the old alias.

Community members who give out advice should not advise other members to remove old Aliases, when the one affected by the issue may not know what he or she is doing and by giving out impartial information on a resolution they may want to keep that e-mail
address for e-mails on the off chance which is why you should always read the submitted question what states 'switching not renaming'. Otherwise the one affected by this issue could lose the ability to receive any future e-mails from their old alias for quite
    some time.

I did advise of what may happen to the email address listed as an alias. Ultimately, I would contact support for guidance on the issue. Community members are specialists in this and shouldn't advise about anything regarding a Microsoft Account.

There is a difference between qualifed staff and a Community Volunteer. Which is why Community Volunteers do not have their job. I'd also like to add that you could have been a bit more detailed in the process of what happends when the e-mail is deleted.
Your guideance was potentially bringing the affected member on the path of deleting an alias without knowin the risks of doing so, again. You did not mention the risks that would involve not being able to create the deleted alias for quite some time. When
dealing with people you have to take precautions because they might be doing something they don't really want to do. Deleting an alias isn't as simple as 1-2-3 You will not be able to create that alias for a while. And if they receive important e-mails on
that e-mail your guidance would have disabled his ability to do so.

It's always a good thing to be a step ahead of knowledge.

AJv2809, be careful on the choice you make when deciding, if you're unsure or receieve e-mail to your old alias if you take that path, take precautions or update your e-mail address on any third party websites that you have registered with, wiith your prior
e-mail address (if you decide to re-name your Microsoft Account)

    Regards,

    Daniel

  9. I'd also like to additionally add that Community Members will remain volunteers like me and others. I would not consider us community members specialists, rather people who share their knowledge. If this was a technical issue, do we count on a community
member (specialist to fix a problem) ? No we rely on the Microsoft Support to do so, they are the specialists, We are merely people to offer advice out, sometimes the advice given out won't be the best advice 100% of the time. Experience is key. But I can
almost assure you from experience 'the verify method won't override the account not being 30 days old' If you are to give out advice about a topic you are not entirely sure on in regards to the Xbox 360 Console then I'd advise you are 100% confident that is
the problem. No matter what, you will not beat the 30 day of age for the Microsoft Account before it will even be eligable to be able to switch over.

    Daniel

  10. I will not be posting in this thread anymore, as I strongly believe the answer I originally posted is the root cause for it not switching over. Please allow up to the full 30 days of creating that new Microsoft Account to switch it over with, or use an existing
Microsoft Account to switch it over with that is over 30 days old.

    Thanks,

    Daniel

DHG Azazel, we "ambassador" spend a lot of time studying things and Experience a lot things that you would be Experiencing later on , so you should not be telling other members that ambassadors and official support or other members shouldn't advise about
