Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely. Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.

Well the first thing is to make sure it is plugged in all the way. Mine comes out all the time.

That message only comes up if the xbox has nothing plugged into it.

If your certain it's not the cord, check the xbox, make sure there isn't dust or dirt jammed in the connecters where you plug in the Ethernet cord.

have you tried another ethernet cable?

If you dont have a error code or something its nearly not possible to help.

Remeeming errors can be caused by issues on the account itself. Be sure to check if your account/billing information is correct at http://billing.microsoft.com and also check http://account.microsoft.com/services for any outstanding amount issues, these need
to be sorted prior to being able to redeem codes.

After that try redeeming the code on both xbox console and via xbox.com/redeemcode

Also check that the Xbox Live account, the console and code all match region wise, using different regions for any of them cause issues too.
