Error Code 0x838601e7

While the game was attempting to sync my data (upon initially starting the game), I received this error -- there seems to be no information about this in either the "XBox Error Status Codes" page, or in this forum.

Any clue what this might be about?

Switched on xbox one,trying to play fifa17, it then tries to sync data and fails at 70% with error

So this error code doesn't exist. So now what do I do?

I hope this gets resolved soon, as I am unable to play Gears 4 online, at all, until it is -- any time I start the game, I keep getting the same error, repeatedly.

2. Are you using an Xbox One console or a Windows 10 computer?

3. Have you made any changes to your device before encountering this issue?

Hi, thanks for the reply -- we're talking about an XBox One system, and it is wired to my network. Nothing has changed with the system recently, and I am able to play other games without issue.

In better detail, here's what happened:

I was playing the Gears 4 campaign with a friend (I was the guest in his campaign, so it was his save file). We were continuing with our campaign at Act 4, chapter 2, and played successfully through Act 4 chapter 3, and he tried to skip a cutscene, to continue
with our game. My game froze up during the cutscene, so I needed to restart the game (went to dashboard, quit game, then restarted the game, and attempted to re-join his game). Upon failing to join his game for the third time, I got an error notice saying
that *MY* system was failing to sync, and that I should delete my saves, so they might re-sync with the cloud. Incredulous that the problem was with my save file in joining his game, I restarted my whole XBox One system, and attempted to join his game, again.
I received the same error notice about failing to syn, and deleting my save game files.

Still curious as to the legitimacy of the error message, I tried to load one of MY OWN campaign saved games, but received the same error yet again, so I quit the game and went to "My Games & Apps," and deleted the Gears 4 save files listing for my username
(I recall it being a relatively small file, a bit over 600kb -- there are no other saved game files for Gears 4 on the machine, as mine is the only username ever used with the machine).

Once again, I started the game, verified that I still had the same ranking (10 re-ups), and noticed that all my cards/weapons/emblems/characters were still present (though, ALL had the "new item" exclamation points attached to them), though no syncing seemed
to happen to re-establish my campaign saved game files. I had only three such campaign saved games before deleting, out of the 5 possible save slots. Once again, though, I was unsuccessful when trying to join my friend's campaign.

At this point, we thought to start a new campaign on my machine, which he might try to join. I started a new campaign in the 4th save slot (one of the two open slots before I deleted my save file), and invited him -- despite several attempts, he was unable
to join my campaign,

I restarted my entire XBox One sytem once again, then restarted the game. This time, after pressing "A" at the main title screen of Gears 4, the game attempted to sync, and I received the error code listed in the subject line -- and, have received the exact
same error upon trying to start the game each time since. My options at this error screen are to retry syncing (which results in the same error, with the same options), or to play offline -- effectively, making the game not worth playing. Given that my last
attempt to start the game was yesterday, let me pop out my Fallout 4 disc, and pop in the Gears 4 disc (it is a disc copy of the game), just to verify that I'm still getting the same error....

Yep, same error -- here's the exact text of the error:

"Something went wrong

1

Give it another try. If this happens again, let us know by entering 0x838601e7 at xbox.com/errorhelp so we can investigate. You might find help for your task on Xbox. From Home, press the menu button on your controller, then choose Help."

... followed by the two choices I mentioned before, "Try Again" and "Use offline"

Here are the troubleshooting methods you can perform to resolve your concern:

Solution 1: Clear Persistent Storage

1. Scroll left on the Home screen to open the Guide.
   
2. Select Settings.
3. Select All Settings.
4. Select Disc & Blu-Ray.
5. In the Blu-Ray section, select Persistent Storage.
   
6. Select Clear persistent storage.
7. Restart your Xbox One console. Access the game again and check if the same instance occurs.
   

Solution 2: Clear MAC Address

1. Scroll left on the Home screen to open the Guide.
   
2. Select Settings.
3. Select All Settings.
4. Select Network.
5. Select Network settings.
6. Select Advanced settings.
7. Select Alternate MAC address.
8. Select Clear.
9. Select Restart. Access the game again and check if the same instance occurs.
   

Solution 3: Remove and re-add your Microsoft account on Xbox One

link and perform the steps provided. Make sure to restart your Xbox One console before re-adding your Microsoft account on the Xbox One. Then, access the game again and check if the same instance occurs.

Solution 4: Reset your Xbox One to factory defaults

1. Scroll left on the Home screen to open the guide.
2. Select Settings.
3. Select All Settings.
4. Select System.
5. Select Console info & updates.
6. Select Reset console.
7. On the Reset your console? screen, select Reset and keep my games & apps. You should use this option as your primary choice when troubleshooting. It will reset the OS and delete all potentially corrupted data without deleting
   your games or apps. This will save you from downloading or reinstalling the large game files. After its completion, access the game again and check if the same instance occurs.

CaySean1106, I thank you tremendously for your helpful response -- Solution 3, removing-then-re-adding my account to the XBox, seems to have corrected the problem -- upon re-starting the game after doing this, Syncing occurred successfully, and I'm back
in business, and my former campaign saves are back in place.
