Error code 0x803f800b

So yes we took the plunge and bought the Xbox One S with Fifa17, one month subscription to Xbox Live Gold and EA access? All good except one month later we needed to update the subscription to Xbox Live Gold. So off I trot at the request of my little lad
to get an activation code for 12 months and we sit down and redeem the voucher.

Check the account and it says that Xbox Gold Live is valid now until Jan 2018 (Haven't updated the EA access as not actually sure what benefits I get other than game discount and previews?) and with a hyper 6 yr old next to me we start one of the games and
we get the Error box that says:

Make sure your subscription service is active

Looks like you need to renew a membership, such as EA Access or Xbox Live Gold. If everything is current, try quitting and relaunching the game. (0x803f800b)

This happens for every game installed through Xbox Live including one that we purchased on disc except Fifa17. Any suggestions or advice in order to sort this out would be appreciated. Followed all the online instructions I could locate as this seems to
be a common problem but nothing seems to work?
