I have the exact same problem, i just changed my broadband to sky after using virgin and everything you said is happening to me also

I got this error code: 0x800704cf while trying to log into my XB1 today on 4-3-17 and this is what the Error & Status Code Search-engine/page here on Xbox.com told me: ("Sorry! No Support articles were found for "0x800704cf"). So I just restarted my console
and it worked just fine. Anyway hope that may or my not help someone down the road. Happy gaming all.

 

Hey Declan,

If you haven't already, we suggest you perform a
power cycle on your console by doing the following:

1. Turn off the Xbox One console by pressing the Xbox button
   on the front of the console for about 10 seconds until it shuts down completely.
   
2. Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 10 seconds.
   Important Be sure to wait 10 seconds. This step resets the power supply.
   
3. Plug the console power cable back in.
4. Press the Xbox button
   on your console to turn on the Xbox One.

If all else fails, you can try a
factory reset while keeping your games and apps. Let us know how it goes!

 

I have tried both of these methods and they worked for around 10mins then it stopped, i even reset my broadband and it connected then again 10mins later i got signed out, ive talked to someone and they told me to contact my broadband (sky) as everything
on there end is working fine but i dont see how sky will be able to fix the problem?

We suggest, if it hasn't already been done, to go through the
Port Forwarding process (with the help of the isp) to open up the ports since they have the information needed to access the router ports.
If you have a firewall or network hardware, such as a router, you might need to make a configuration change in order for your Xbox One console to communicate with Xbox Live. This configuration change is sometimes called "opening ports" or "port forwarding."
Xbox Live requires the following ports to be open on your router:

• Port 88 (UDP)
• Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
• Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
• Port 80 (TCP)
• Port 500 (UDP)
• Port 3544 (UDP)
• Port 4500 (UDP)
