Error Code 0x80070057 & 0x80070005 when installing game

I'm getting a 0x80070057 error code when I'm installing Forza Horizon 4 through Gamepass on Windows 10. Quite apart from that, I am forced to install it on my C: drive, even though I have multiple hard drives and would much rather install the game on
my F: drive, however when I go into the Windows Settings to change it I get the 0x80070005 error code, and in the Gamepass app won't let me change my installation drive any other way.

Any help whatsoever would be appreciated to get this crappy software to install the damn game on a drive of my choice. Steam makes it so easy, it can't be this difficult!?

    :)

I have recently re-installed windows, however, I used the same exact drive as I am now. There is a WindowsApps folder in my F: drive, however I cannot delete it.

    Hi,

The Xbox App isn't a stand alone downloading app like for example, Steam or GoG. The Xbox App is simply a portal to allow you to download Game Pass games. The downloading is actually completed via the Windows Store.

Since Xbox App uses the Windows Store, error code 0x80070057 is actually a Windows 10 error code. There are many guides on the net to potentially fix this error, just google 'Windows error 0x80070057 like this
    one

Note: You should not need to install any free applications on any of these sites.
If you do, you do so at your own risk.

Likewise, error code 0x80070005 is also a Windows 10 error often referred to as an 'access denied' error. If you get this error when trying to change where default applications are installed, it typically means there is already a folder on the drive from
a previous PC or Windows installation.

Did you take any of these drives from a previous PC or have you recently re-installed Windows 10 from scratch?

All Windows 10 Applications install to a hidden folder called WindowsApps. On the C:\ drive, WindowsApps is located in a hidden folder in C:\Program Files.
Do not attempt to modify this folder. On other drives the WindowsApps folder will be located in the Root directory. So on say F:\ drive it would be F:\WindowsApps.

Do you already have a WindowsApps folder in your F:\ drive?

    Hi,

I thought that may be the case. You'll need to take ownership of the old WindowsApps folder. The quickest and easiest way I found was to to use a third party application called

    IObit Unlocker
, its free and totally safe.

When it's installed, you'll get a new 'IObit unlocker' option when you right click on a folder in Windows Explorer.

Find your old WindowsApps folder, right click on it and select IObit Unlocker from the list. You'll get a Windows User Access Control window pop up, just click yes.

Now you would think 'unlock' would just work, but I had better luck with 'Unlock and Rename'. You can rename it whatever you like. I would just call it
    OLD.

If it's successful your old WindowsApps folder in F:\ will now be renamed to
    OLD
and all being well you can delete it. If this is proving troublesome, please get back to me.

Once it's gone you can go back to Windows Settings and change where default apps go to F:\ drive again. This will create a new WindowsApps folder and the 0x80070005 error will be no more.

    Hope that helps.

My example 'WindowsApps' folder isn't locked here as I just created my own to use it as an guide.

    Nothing actually fix this.
In another game I get this error: 0x80070005

It doesn't show this error when installing on the main drive where OS installed, but only when installing in another ssd.
