Error code: 0x00000001 Unable to install anything

So I actually fixed this with an old powershell script that I have. I'm a system admin and got this script a while back from Microsoft to fix app issues that we have had on the job with things like Photos and Calculator not opening. I actually pulled it from my google drive because I've put it there for someone in the past. Didn't think about it till now.

The steps I took were:

• Uninstall the Xbox app
  
• Run the script
  
• Restart
  
• Install the Xbox app

I think I've set the permissions correctly on this. As stated in the txt file you will see red text while the script is running but that is normal. What did happen for the first time that I've seen anyway is the script got stuck in a loop and was just running the same command over and over so I just closed it and restarted. Once I booted back up and installed the Xbox app it started working.

How about this? Open Powershell in admin mode and paste the following,

Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers| Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

Then restart your PC to apply changes.

Thanks, but I'm already patched beyond that patch level. I'm running this months patch level 19043.1165. I upgraded from Windows 10 (2004) to (21H1) and fully patched to this month's patches before hand.

This is actually the 2nd time this has happened and I think that patch fixed it the first time but it is now back.

Thanks. I did that this morning but then I couldn't find Gaming Services in the store, uninstalled and reinstalled Xbox, restarted and I still don't see it and the registry keys are still not there. I'll do more in a bit this evening when I sit down to see if I can get that reinstalled.

I experienced this issue as well, on the most recent version of Windows. This is what I did, in order, to fix the installs. I'm not sure which step actually helped.

1. In "Apps and features," reset Microsoft Store, then reset Xbox app.
   
2. open regedit, entirely delete Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServices and Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServicesNet
   
3. Restart
   
4. Open Microsoft Store, update "Gaming Services" or ensure it is already up to date by pressing "Get updates" in the "Downloads and updates" section.
   
5. Open Xbox app. Issue was fixed.
