error 8016FE6D transferring gamertag from one account to another

As in the title of the thread.

I have a gamertag (which has xbox gold status) attached to my Live email address and want to transfer it to my son's Live account.

I get all the way through the process, but at the end it fails to transfer and gives an 8016FE6D error.

Any ideas ?

We have tested the console to check it has the up to date firmware etc installed.

Gamertag wont transfer to new Microsoft account

I want to transfer my gamertag and account from one microsoft account to another but at the end of filling everything out on screen it comes up as an error with a status code of 8016FE6D, when I looked that code up it doesent exist. Help plz? thanks.

sorry to hear you are having this issue.. but what I can recommend is to call phone support at 1-800-4MYXBOX and have them cancel your membership and just send you a ppc with the remaining months you have left on your accnt. for example if you purchase the
12M membership and you only used 2M they should cancel that 12M and give you 10M so you can redeem in your sons accnt

There a couple of reasons why this isn't my preferred option...

1. I'm not in the US (the UK actually)

2. He has lots of history and other bits and pieces attached to this gamer.

The reason it has arisen, is that he now has a windows phone, so wants all his accounts tied up neatly to use their full functionality.

I was hoping that the specific nature of the error could be identified so that I could work around it. I can't believe that swapping an account over could be sooo hard.

I am running into the same issue and microsoft has been all but useless did you find a way to fix it?

I am trying to recover my sons gamertag, that XBOX told me to delete, so that he can get all his saved data back. Any ideas on how I can do this? I talked to XBOX and they are no help. Tried redownloading his profile but it is only downloading his new gamertag

I'm having this same issue, just I don't have gold status. Tried to move mine to another account I use for other stuff, also after getting a Windows phone, so I could have my Xbox stuff on my phone. So I'm going to take a good guess this error code is related
to having a Windows phone on the account you're moving the gamertag to since one of you also mentioned having such a phone. I'll give chat support a try and see what happens, and if they can get anywhere with it I'll post back here and let everyone know.

 

Alright, update after talking to chat support. After looking at my accounts she saw that I had previously had Office subscriptions on the account and said this had an affect on it (which I personally find strange). I was told to first switch the gamertag
to a brand new Microsoft account and then after the 30 day wait for switching accounts that I should then be able to switch to the account I wanted to no problem.

So does anyone else having this issue have any Office products subscriptions, previous or current? If not then I'd say I can probably rule this out as a solution and likely won't bother wasting my time with it.

What I have noticed based on this thread and one other about this error code is that everyone seems to have a Windows phone set up with the account they're trying to switch their gamertag to. I kinda wonder if this might be the root of the problem instead.
Also found that while I didn't have anything Xbox on my Windows phone signed in, when I checked to make sure it didn't try to use my account and make a gamertag anyways that in the settings it had Connect with Xbox, Sync Game Requests, and Show Game Notifications
turned on despite never even using the app. The Xbox Games app also shows games that aren't Xbox phone games, so I do wonder if this automatic setting and my playing those games are the real issue despite not being signed in to my account.

 

Just spoke with Microsoft support. They suggested I re-download system updates by going to System -> Storage -> Highlight Hard Drive -> Press LB-RB-X twice and select "Yes."

It didn't work for me but maybe there's a chance it will work for someone else.

 

So it seems I'm not the only one having the issue. I've previously had office subscriptions, and now have a new windows phone, I had to change my original microsoft account because it was a gmail which apparently messes them up. Contacted Support a while
ago and they advised wait 2-4 hours if the issue is still occurring, contact them again... Time to contact them again I suppose...
