3f4b-4099-1600-267f-c000-0185

I usually don’t ask for help but my 360 is about to be destroyed and before it comes to that I thought that I would ask. I keep getting the above error when trying to apply the update. I have been to the solutions center and did everything that it
said from clearing the cache to trying to force the update with a usb drive. Don’t know what else I can try. Please help.

Thank you,

Marc

Greetings Kozair!

Appreciate if you could post up the make and model of your router and your modem as well (if this is not a single device).

Does your console terminates to your router, or do you use a different set up (e.g. ICS on your computer, to share its Internet connection with your console)?
I have been to the solutions center and did everything that it said from clearing the cache to trying to force the update with a usb drive.
Except from clearing your console's system cache and try to manually update, using a USB
flash drive, have you tried any other steps? If so, detailing out any additional steps you have tried so far, so we don't post up solutions that you have already tried.

Thank you!

Since you say you tried everything from the solution page already, it's difficult to recommend another solution. So I'll try and cover the "unusual" bases that could cause an update to fail.

First of all: Make sure your console is a genuinely unmodified console. If you bought the console used, and the previous owner (or you yourself) modified anything with the disc drive, the update will fail. Maybe the drive was defective in the past and you (or
a previous owner) tried to save money, and had the console "repaired" by a service not affiliated with Microsoft (i.e. a videogame store that offers unlicensed console "repairs").

In that case, there is nothing you can do. In order for a replacement drive to work, the new drive and the motherboard have to be cryptographically "married", a process not (yet) fully understood by the reverse enigneers, and those small undiscovered parts
of the drive firmware might cause the update to fail.

If your console however really is 100% genuinely unmodified and original, take a look at the USB update you created. Make sure that you put the update on a plain USB flashdrive. The drive should NOT have special functions like hardware encryption, or special
launch menus to use portable applications or the likes. Make sure the USB stick is FAT formatted, not NTFS.

When you open the stick, make sure you UNPACKED the downloaded update. On the stick you should ONLY see a folder called "$Systemupdate" and nothing else. Inside the $systemupdate folder you should see about a hundred files making up that update.

If you are sure you correctly created that USB stick, go to your console. Remove ALL accessories that are plugged in the console that aren't currently necessary (for example a Live Vision camera, HD-DVD drive, additional USB sticks used as memory units and
the likes).

Also make sure that you have enough storage space on your harddrive! Make sure you have about 256MB free at least (just to be sure).

Turn the console on, and go all the way right to the settings hub. There go to the system tile in the upper left and choose the storage options. Please clear the cache again by pressing Y on any drive, and choosing the appropriate menu entry.

After that, enter the following button combination in the storage menu. Left Button, Right Button, X, Left Button, Right Button, X

Allow the console to do the maintenance.

Then insert the USB flashdrive again. And hopefully this time the update should read properly. But make sure you have the update PROPERLY on the drive as described above!
