The issue has only revealed itself on Monday/Sunday when Valheim tried to update itself.

PC is reasonably new and fully updated, and has been used with little change over the past few months, browsing, games, email, MS office stuff. I have an active Game Pass.

I did manage to get in contact with both xbox support and Microsoft support.

A ticket is still open.



Further to my own troubleshooting (including a windows repair), xbox support went through similar and some extra debugging steps, and checked my profile which did not have any errors. They referred me on to Microsoft support chats.



I was Getting the same error when logging in to an older PC, which pointed to something about the profile.



The second older PC had not been used by me for a while, but the default storage location on the old PC was d: , and there existed a d:\xboxgames directory there, but no c:\xboxgames.



The new PC does not have a D: drive, my suspicion is that logging onto the old PC in the last few months may have tried to change the directory to d: in my profile. There is no d: drive on the new PC.

The Settings>General page in the xbox app would often come up with “error getting location” message.



Logging in to the old PC again , and I see that a c:\xboxgames dir had been created there (instead of the previous d:\xboxgames ) .





I left the install option open on both PC’s and this morning the game had installed on the new PC.

Currently trying to install another game to test, but it does seem to be stuck in a similar stalled state, and I will wait to see if there is an error code produced.

It seems that there might be issue with the related applications in your device. Let us make sure your applications are updated. We will install update and repair corrupted applications. For now, allow to provide the troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue.

By the way can you provide us the additional information by answering few questions.

1. What is the version of Windows you are using? To check, press Windows key + R and type winver in run dialog box.

2. Can you tell us version of Xbox app you are using?

For the meantime, here are the troubleshooting steps that we can perform:

1. Make sure Windows is up to date

• Press the Start button on the taskbar, type settings, and then select Settings.
  
• On Windows 10, select Update & Security. On Windows 11, select Windows Update.
  
• On the Windows Update page, select Check for updates to see if any updates are available
  

including optional updates for your device.

• Once the updates have downloaded, select Install now to start the installation.
  
• Following installation, we recommend that you restart your device so that the latest updates can take effect.
  

2. Make sure both the Xbox and Gaming Services apps are up to date

• Press the Start button on the taskbar, type store, and open the Microsoft Store app.
  
• Select Library.
  
• Under Updates & downloads, check if there are any updates available for the Xbox app or Gaming Services app. If an update is available, select Update.
  

3. Make sure you are signed in to the Xbox app and the Store with the same account.

> To make sure your permissions for the game can be validated, be sure to sign in to both the Store and the Xbox app using the same account that was used to purchase the game.

4. Uninstall and reinstall Gaming Services

• Select the Search icon on the taskbar, type powershell, right-click on Windows PowerShell, and then select Run as administrator.
  
• In Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:
  get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
  
• In the same window, type the following command and press Enter:
  start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
  
• Install the app on that page and select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.
  
• Restart your device and try to install the game again.
  

5. Reset Microsoft Store

• Press Windows key + R and type wsreset.exe then hit enter.
  
• An empty Command prompt will pop open. Let it be for a few seconds and the command line will close automatically (after it has cleared the cache behind the background) and Microsoft Store will be launched in its place.
  

6. Repair or Reset Xbox app

• Press Win + I to open the Settings app, and click on Apps.
  
• Click on Apps & features, and in the search box type Xbox app and click on app settings (three dots).
  
• Click on Reset. Repeat the steps and do the same with Xbox app.

Sorry have been away.

I am still getting this error.

Have just removed McAfee and install stubs present from Windows repair on ASUS laptop.

No Change.

over 700G free.

After Valheim installed last week, the game is playing correctly.

These are correct settings, but this screen shows error on first run of xbox app. Restart the app and settings appeared correctly.





New game download in queue is showing this:

this is file explorer, but directory is created only, with a single hidden .xvs file, and download did not immediately proceed



Same error is produced with error code as above.
