Error 0x803f9006 with Family Accounts on Home Console

Last week, my son and I were playing Sea of Thieves together. He signed into our home console on his family member account, while I signed into our second console with my primary account. This worked fine for a few days.

Yesterday when we tried to do the same, he got error 0x803f9006, which states that the person who paid for the game needs to be signed in. Since he is on the home console, he should be able to play on his own profile.

Any guidance on how to fix this? I have tried multiple reboots, reset our modem/router, reinstalled the game, and even did a factory reset on the console - all without any success. Help please!

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Xbox Forum support. The error code you have received indicates that the console is no longer home-shared by your account. Perhaps after performing the reset the console lost its feature, but that's okay because you can definitely
home share the console once again if you still have switches. You can follow the steps on the link below to designate the console using your account to mark the console as a home console.

So I answer to myself in case it could help someone else. Contacting support by chat, I could discuss with the French technical Support ( I am French by the way ) . It comes that this issue is related to some cache data going bad for some reason, the xbox
just need to be cleaned and the cleaning process, you won't guess it.

- Remove all accounts from Xbox

- restart the console

- Parameters / bluray - Persisting storage - Empty persisting storage

- Parameters / network - Go Off line for 30s then connect again

- Parameters / network / advanced / Mac : remove

- Switch off the console

- Remove cables

- connect cables again

- add the profiles

- play

Honestly, I strongly suspect removing / adding profiles is enough but fact is I followed this procedure and now I don't have to log anymore for my son to play his game. I have to say it was an unexpected end as I was pretty sure it has to do with the game
itself.

The family account would not have an effect, but the Home setting would. The Home setting allows an account to share gold/games with any other profiles on the Home console. So if the game was purchased on one child's account, they can set a console as their
Home. The other child can use that Home console and access the game while the account that purchased the game can sign into the non-Home console and play there. https://beta.support.xbox.com/help/hardware-network/console/my-home-xbox

Family accounts are more for being able to set restrictions and things on accounts. It doesn't effect licensing.
