Entered code for Xbox Live Gold, didn't work

I just bought my new Xbox One. I had been out of Gold membership, so I looked around for the redeem code option. I went to Xbox store - Games and used the Use Code option there. The code worked, however the item it said I was getting was unusually long.
I haven't been given my trial yet, and the code is wasted. I would like to use my trial, please.

Today my xbox live expired. I had received a 12 month xbox Gold card for christmas and I was going to use it today. I entered it on the screen that said my live had run out and that didn't work. I tried it again, and even had my dad come down and help.
It still didn't work. We then went on to a computer to xbox.com/redeemcode. We tried it there twice and again it didn't work. We then searched around on the xbox site and entered in the error code to the support. That still didn't come up with anything. I'm
very active on my xbox and I would appreciate a way to have the code work.

Do you mean you had a 48hour or 14 day trial?

Fyi trial cards cannot be added to a gold membership because they are trials and does not change your status to gold

If you have an outstanding balance and was suspended due to it you need to pay it off trials nor prepaid codes pay off the balance

Trial cards only give you temporary multiplayer access likr social matches not ranked ones

If you are trying destiny you need actual paid membership

Hi, were you entering the code on the Xbox? I had a small problem where my 12 Months Live Gold code didn’t work when I tried to redeem it on the Xbox. I had to enter it online.

What you have done is you've purchased currency for XBL gold and the reason it is not working is because you entered a gift code not a gold code. You need to purchase XBL gold in the store or online etc... Once you've entered a code, it cannot be used again.
So head into 'marketplace' or the window that pops up and purchase gold from there. (Don't worry you haven't wasted money or have been scammed, just you didn't purchase a gold code you purchased currency to purchase gold on the Xbox).

You don't enter the code in the game itself, you enter the code on Xbox live. The same area that you would enter the codes to redeem microsoft points or gold membership cards.

Hello I'm having a problem with my Xbox live gold. When I entered the code it said that it was for Xbox 360 and that it worked with backwards compatibility but it never gave the gold to me. This was the only place that made sense to put my problem at.
