Email addresses gamertags and loss of information

So this post is a bit confusing. If you just don't want the gamertag on that email address, you can create a new live ID, then move that gamertag over to that address. I would make sure that you keep your information correct on the new live id, as you may
want to access it at a later time.

That will free up your email address. If you want to delete the email address you can delete all the other information on it, then delete the live id.

So if I understand correctly, you would prefer your new xbox live account moved to the old email address. Correct?

The only way to remove a gamertag from an email address is by moving it to a different email address (Microsoft Account), but in order to do so, the account must be on a console for at least 30 days without it being downloaded in that period.

Besides that, replacing it with the new one, will also result in loss of the balance on the current account, since that would need to be moved too.

Anything purchased or earned on your account remains with your account regardless of whether you change your email address, gamertag or address information.

To find the Microsoft account associated with your gamertag

1. On your Xbox 360 console, sign in with your gamertag.
   
2. Go to Settings, and then select Account.
   
3. On the Account Management screen, go to Your Information, and then select
   Microsoft account. You'll see the email address associated with your gamertag
   

If you need additional assistance... I have called Microsoft (1800-4my-xbox) and spoke with the customer service rep. Basically, I described my address, billing information, and variation of the email address used. Once they felt it was correct and I was
who I was saying I was, they told me the correct email address.
