Email address alias

Hey guys. So when I created my account I created an email that I no longer want linked to my account, or even better, permanently deleted. So by making an email alias and then making it primary, then removing the original email address, will it wipe out
the email entirely? I'm hoping it does. Thanks!

You're thinking of alias as a way to link your different Microsoft accounts together...it's not that. Creating a new alias means you're signing up for a new (not taken) email address, but the email to/from this new address will use existing inbox.

If you want to add your 2nd Microsoft account's email address as alias to this one, first you'll have to remove that email address from that account (i.e. sign up for an alias on that account, make the new alias primary, delete the email address you want
to move, wait for 30 days for that email address to be available to the world, then add it to your current Microsoft account as new alias).

 

How can i change a email adress that was deleted or discontinued by the provider or not an outlock/hotmail account

Change the email address you use to sign in to your Microsoft account

Step 1: Add a new alias.

1. Sign in to your Microsoft account.
   
2. Select Your Info.
3. Select Manage your sign-in email or phone number.
4. Because of the sensitive nature of changing your alias, you'll be prompted to enter the code that we send to the email or phone number you listed in your account as security information. This lets us know the request is coming from you.
   
5. Select Add email alias.

• If you don't already have an email address, select Create a new email address and add it as an alias. Follow the instructions.
  
• If you have a non-Microsoft email address (such as a gmail.com or yahoo.com address) that you want to use, select Add an existing email address as a Microsoft account alias. Then, clickAdd alias.
  

1. When you add an existing email address as a Microsoft account alias, you'll be required to verify that you own that account. To the right of the alias you added, click Verify, and we'll send a message to that email address to get confirmation.
   
   Note The email address you enter cannot already be in use as a Microsoft account alias.
   
2. When you receive the email, click the link provided to verify that you own the account.
   

Step 2: Set the new email address as the primary alias.

After you set the new email address as your primary alias, that email address will be displayed as your Microsoft account alias when you sign in to all devices and services. Here's how to make this change:

1. Under Account alias, select aliases.
2. Click or tap Make primary under the alias that you want as primary.

Step 3: Remove the old email address you no longer want to use.

Select Remove next to the alias you want to remove. Follow the instructions provided.

Note It can take up to 48 hours for the change to your email address to be implemented on all Microsoft services. If you sign in to your Microsoft account on an Xbox One console by using your Kinect sensor, you might temporarily be asked to manually
sign in with a controller. If after two days you're still being asked to manually sign in, try removing your profile from the console and then adding it back.

Heya!

If that email is a Microsoft email it would indeed delete the entire email once removed and it would never be retrievable.

Be sure that you have a proper alias set up before preforming setup as it could lead to the loss of the account if not taken care of!
