Elite Series 2 trigger sticky

I got an Elite Series 2 at launch but being in the UK, the Microsoft store wouldn’t allow me to buy an extended warranty. Now, I’m using my third controller as two broke within the first few months. (Stick drift and a rubber part broke off).

Today, my right trigger has started to become sticky. There’s an audible click when pressed and a resistance that makes using the controller feel not nice at all. This pad has lasted 6 months.

Unfortunately, Microsoft won’t let me get a repair/replacement because it’s out of warranty. Something I don’t find fair at all as the high price of the item along with the high failure rate makes paying for a repair a gamble. I don’t feel I should pay £84 on top of the £130 I paid for controller that can’t last a year.

I don’t have the tools to open the pad up. So, does anybody have any advice on how to resolve this issue? The common belief is that it’s a pad that’s fallen off and left residue behind. I tried condensed air, isopropyl alcohol wipes and nail polish remover but the sticky remains. I also tried putting the rumble to max to heat the glue up and it helped a little but once it cools down it goes back to where it was.

Any advice would be helpful. I don’t want a very expensive paperweight.

Sorry, mate. Just to be sure, some players are still not aware that the elite 2 warranty has been extended to 1 year.

I believe that to solve this it is necessary to open the controller and personally I've never done it and I don't feel comfortable telling you to do this and end up making the situation worse.

If it has been less than 1 year since you purchased the controller you can request a replacement. Microsoft has extended the elite 2 warranty to 1 year.

If the controller is out of warranty I highly recommend taking it to a store that repairs consoles/electronics in your city. It will be cheaper and faster for you.

Hi there, I’m not great. It’s been an unfortunate few months in real life and this problem that’s appeared is just the icing on the cake, really.

As I said in my post, the pad is out of warranty. It’s why Microsoft is refusing to replace it without spending £84 on it.

Due to the COVID situation here, I can’t travel to the city to see if somebody is able to repair it. Hence why I’m trying home remedies like isopropyl alcohol and nail polish remover. Which haven’t worked.

my left trigger is also strange. when i push it litl bit past the midle it feels like there is another button or something. got it yestardey for 200e.

As it turns out, the problem did spontaneously resolve after a couple of days of use while I was waiting for the retailer to reply to my how-to-do-a-return over the Christmas season query.
