Elite Series 2 Right Analog Stick Grinding

I just got a refurbished controller as a replacement for my old one that was having button issues, but this new one is having issues as well. All the buttons appear to work, but the right analog stick feels like it's going over a speed bump when I move it between 40 and 50 degrees ( across the upper right diagonal). It feels like I'm rolling a wheel over a cable, but I know that shouldn't be the case given how these are designed. In any case, it's enough resistance that it would make playing with it very jarring. and you can't do fine movement in certain areas.

At first I thought there might be a deformity on the ring of the thumbstick or it's housing that I could just wear down a bit, but they seem clean and clear. I tried removing the thumb cap and moving the stick directly and it is still there. I also tried tightening and loosening the tension screw in the stick but that didn't do anything.

I'd much rather not send off the controller again to be replaced with another toss up refurbished controller, so I'm hoping someone has an idea on a possible fix for this.

I have 2 Elites drifting to the right from the left analog stick.

Some of the design choices on the upcoming elite series 2 were made with the 360 controller in mind. The adjustable tension analog sticks will allow you to match the 360s tension for example.

The Elite series controllers allow you to make changes to the sensitivity of the analog sticks. Also look at the forza horizon in game settings for sensitivty changes.

Open the Xbox Accessories app and select the Elite controller.
Select “Configure” and then go to the “Sticks” tab.
From here, you can adjust the “Vertical Inversion” setting for the right stick to invert the Y-axis1.
