Elite S2 Core controller disconnects - out of warranty

My original warranty expired 8/28/23.

My originally purchased Elite series 2 core controller was fine until mid-July when the RB button failed.

I get the warranty replacement controller and it has its own problem, if I click both thumb sticks at the same time while the left stick is pushing forward, the controller turns off. It’s still working in warranty barely, send it back for another warranty replacement.

I open up the “new” replacement and the first thing I check is the thumbstick double click… same problem as the previous, it disconnects.

So now I’m out of warranty and need to see about how I can do this issue, what am I looking for when I open up the controller? This looks like it is a highly common issues so hoping for a DIY fix.

The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 comes with a stick adjustment tool that lets you tweak the tension in the left and right sticks until they’re just the way you like them.

We recommend only using the included stick adjustment tool for this procedure, but if you don’t have it on hand, you can also use a slotted screwdriver (3.0mm or SAE 3/32” work best). To avoid damaging the controller, use low force when applying the tool. To request a replacement tool: Xbox Online Service center

When I received both replacement controllers in the warranty-replacement process.

2. Has there been any changes with the controller like installing the updates before the issue happen?

I received them, connected/synced them to my Xbox series X, checked for updates(none available) and started playing.

3. What troubleshooting steps have you done so far to help resolve the issue?

Synced them to a different Xbox One, same issue.

4. Are you seeing this behavior in ALL game and apps or happening in ONE game or app?

It can be disconnected/turned off by doing the thumbstick click at any time.
