Elite: Dangerous - What every player needs to know BEFORE you buy.

I'm just trying to figure out if the game is right for me in it's current state.

I know there are plenty of people that love sims without goals or stories ( train sims are hugely popular and we have farming sims, tow trucks, forklifts, etc) so I get the appeal to some people but I need a goal to be doing all the grinding beyond new ships/gear
and starting over which is why the patch looks appealing (factions being added, etc).

I do have a question that will also apply to the console......the description says "partial" controller support and I'm seeing people grabbing Hotas to play. Can everything be mapped to a 360 controller?

As being one of the first to snap up elite dangerous, i cant tell you rvhk is wrong. Once you buy a game you can play unhindered, for as long as you like, progress within a game also saves.

It should be available to everyone.

Elite dangerous is an amazing game, can not wait for horizons, but glad it came to game preview, hopefully more pc devs follow suit.

I know DAYZ is coming to game preview in 2k16..

Guys, I need help on this case. I bought, back in 20/08/2015, the game Elite Dangerous and last week I downloaded the free content called Elite Dangerous Physics Engine.

I tried to install the game again to play once more after the DLC, but it wasn't showing on my ready to install list, in the store it's asking me to buy it again. The game isn't between my hidden installations (RT+LT+Y).

The Order Number for this purchase is 567172081640797429.



Could you guys help me?

Factions already exist in the game (Federation, Empire, Alliance, etc.) but Powerplay (PP) will enhance that. Don't ask me how, I have no special access.

This doesn't look like a game I would enjoy. A bit too flight-sim for my tastes. I appreciate the effort of trying to do something unique, but I'd have to have a solid, hands-on demo before I ever took a chance on it.

 

Caring Pear you are very passionate about Elite Dangerous aren't you? Would you rate this as your favorite game of all time?

I like to have some sort if "Closure" in my games. But then afterward I am able to continue to explore. So this seems like it is peaking my interest

 

I watched via the links a few vids on this. I liken it to the Windows 98, DX-7, AMD K6-2, 3DFX Monster Fusion GPX PCI card, X-Wing vs Tiefighter title (Spelling) but in sim mode. My opinion.

Can it become adictive? You bet. But online only is a double edged sword in this era where this title will both shine for some, as well as loose its appeal quickely for others. But the OP covered this in the opening to some extent.

 

Can't wait for this, had my eye on it for a few months now. Probably my most anticipated game this year....... Well, until Fallout 4 gets announced that is.

 

Very good read on what the game will deliver for those that are unsure, I've been watching plenty play it for a while now and know what to expect from it and I'm still keen. I don't sell or trade games so an endless game is of no worry to me or is the open
online nature with other players. The universe his Huge!! It's not like you are going to encounter real players every time you play or that they will even attack you. Looks like a nice slow burning trading and flight sim.

 

this game is cross platform i believe and also this game will be the same as the pc version they already said that 1080p 60fps and the scale

 

One of the first i'll do is going to Leonard Nimoy memorial....And i'm pretty sure it's gonna take me ages (between ressourses,find my way,ect...)

 

The problem I find with games like this is that unless you are one of the first wave players to start, you never really have a chance.

By the time others join, the first wave just simply dominates them. It becomes, and please forgive the pun, a very Elite club where you'll have a hard time getting membership. Yes the core of the fun is there but getting killed every five minutes doesn't
make for a fun experience.

 

Isnt that the same for any MP game with a progression system though?

As XBox players will probably start in their own instance, all players will start on equal footings. However, let's assume worse case and you do start with the other PC and Mac players. In this scenario, you can A) Play Open mode and take your chances. Not
everyone is a jerk and many established players will help you get going or at least leave you alone. It's a big universe and you can always move where there are less players. B) Go Solo where you are the only PC and play against NPC's only. That's challenging
enough. C) Private group like Mobius where PVP is not allowed outside of RES or Combat Zones.

I joined in Feb where most were Kickstarter backers and had early Alpha and Beta access. I'm doing just fine and only been killed nine times so far (Three times due to bad piloting). Luckily I had insurance to cover each loss. INSURANCE - Don't fly without
it.

Favorite game of all time? Tough one to answer. My Steam account has 180+ games and Borderlands, Skyrim, Mass Effect, Half-Life and Fallout are my most played. Elite: Dangerous is in my top 10 certainly. I'm playing it and GTA5 nightly at the moment.

There is a difference though. Elite: Dangerous devs are continually improving the game with free upgrades where the other games I mentioned were (except for bug fixes and paid DLC) static after release. 1.2 added Wings where people can play together and
operate in Wings of up to four players. 1.3 is adding more factional play and in-depth missions. There is a rumbling of Thargoids coming soon as well; tough alien opponents. After that comes planetary landings and pilot mobility (walking around). Then in the
future capital ships, carriers and the like.

Get on the Frontier forums and make a decent suggestion and they might adopt it and place it in the game. THAT is major. The game I started with (1.1) and the game I have today are vastly different.

My goal isn't to convince everyone to buy this game. I'm simply trying to educate you so you can make up your own minds before release. Many Steam users bought this game when it went on that service Apr 2, 2015.
Rage quits followed because of reasons I mentioned in my opening post. Most of them had less than 5 hours game play and they skipped the tutorials. Elite: Dangerous is not for everyone. However, if you check the Steam forums today you'll find people with 600
- 700 hours of play (since April!) who love it.

Also, for those who think this is just a pew-pew game check out this 25 episode (and counting) exploration series from Obsidian Ant. He starts with a beta version of the game so you can see how it has improved over time. He also has a Twitch channel where
you can watch him live and ask questions if you like.
