Elite controller - no low battery warning anymore?

Twice now I have been using my Xbox and the batteries have died in my Elite controller without me getting a notification warning me that they're low.

Anyone else getting this? It's not a major issue, but it's a bit of a pain when you're in the middle of a conversation in a party and the batteries just die.

Low battery warning in Windows

I use the wireless Xbox One controller with the USB dongle

(which btw is extremely oversized compared to the Steam dongle, not to mention the Logitech ones).

Using the Windows 10 app Xbox Accessories I can check the battery level to a certain extent

(it shows a battery bar and a vague description, no percentages).

However, there is absolutely no low battery level warning!

On the Steam controller the button with the logo on it would flash
if it was near death but the only way the Xbox controller tells you is by
instantly turning off. Something that is highly frustrating when playing a ranked multiplayer game.

Is there any way to get a similar warning as the Steam controller for low battery level, or at least some sort of software popup?

February update out

Good update. Turning the console on via controller is snappier, but I did experience a controller disconnect yesterday during game play. (I did update the controller firmware.) Doesn't seem to be a battery issue - no low battery warning and still plenty
of rumble. It happens to me so rarely that it's not a huge issue, but I was kind of hoping this update would fix that.

 

My controller has been doing this for some time now. I used to get a warning but now the controller most of the time just dies all of a sudden coz the batteries are dead. Even the warning is rather messed up as in the worst case scenario it pops up a vouple
of minutes before the batteries dying. The batteries are fine since on the 360 they last the usual time and the blinking light lasts just as long as it always has giving me lots of time to react. I don't know if it's tje console or the controller (both work
fine otherwise) but this is annoying. I need to be paranoid and keep checking the home screen for the charge levels once or twice/hour to not have an unpleasant surprise.
