Elite controller ABXY buttons not executing, everything else works

How long has this been going on?

Is this only on Xbox, or on Windows 10? Is it with all games, only one, or also on the dashboard?

Can you go into Settings then Devices & Accessories and select the Elite and see if there is an update pending for the controller; if so, apply that and see if the problem is remedied.

As an experiment, if you use the Xbox Accessories app to map some of the ABXY face buttons to the paddles, does the controller now execute on those commands?

Edit: I see on Twitter you say you got a replacement controller. Does that mean you're no longer having this issue, or is it the replacement one exhibiting this behaviour?

This same thing happened to me.... both controllers!! And can't fix it! Uggh! the ABXY buttons don't work, and I cant get back to the settings screen

I recently purchased a refurb'ed Elite Controller from BestBuy for my PC; I really liked it overall but started to notice that it wouldn't always register when I pressed the face (ABXY) buttons, especially the 'A' button. I tested the inputs on the Accessories
app and confirmed--it seems like if you press the button at an angle, it doesn't register, even if the button seems to have traveled all the way down.

I tested the inputs on a Dualshock 4 and a normal Xbox one controller for comparison and both seem way more "generous" in terms of what counts as a button press--as soon as the button travels all the way down, it registers, no matter how its pressed. I will
still say the Elite Controller works the majority of the time, just enough misses to annoy me, especially given the controller's price tag.

I searched online and noticed a few other people had a similar issue; however, many have reported they exchanged the controller multiple times and still have the issue. This got me wondering if I actually received a defective product or if its just a design
flaw that myself and a few others are more sensitive too. I reported my first controller as defective and am waiting on a new one but don't want to keep exchanging them if they're functional devices with a design flaw.

So I was just wondering--has anyone else noticed this? Did anyone else have this issue and resolve it with a new controller? Any help / advice is appreciated--thanks!

Hi there, sorry about that, microsoft made another mistake with xbox elite 2. The controller has alot of problems and everybody is facing it. The first elite controller was a mess and this one too.

The paddles on the Elite controller can only be mapped through the Xbox Accessories app on the Xbox One or Windows 10, otherwise they default to ABXY. They are mapped through the controller itself, you press a paddle on the controller, the controller then
sends the mapped command to the PC/Console. Thus they can only be mapped to duplicate other buttons on the controller and cannot be mapped to commands that are "outside" of the regular Xbox Controller inputs.

Basically they aren't an extra 4 buttons, rather an alternative 4 buttons.

Also, if they are not responding at all, try double tapping the sync button on the top of the controller. When turning the paddles off, you get 4 short bursts of vibration, when turning the paddles on, you get one longer burst of vibration.
