    Elite Controller 2 Advice

Sorry for the long story, but I feel it needs background.

At the beginning of this year, I received an Elite Controller 2 as a gift. Before this, I owned 2 original Elite Controllers, the first of which had many issues that arose outside the warranty period (drifting left stick, unresponsive D-pad), the second
I still own and passed on to my partner so she could start learning how to use the paddles.

Back to my newer Elite Controller 2: About a month ago, my B button starting being intermittently unresponsive. I play a lot of driving games with manual transmission using the B button to shift up, and I'd estimate about 1 in every 20 shifts gets missed.
I've also recently been replaying the Batman Return to Arkham series which pretty regularly uses a Y + B button combo for a throw (as well as a straight B button for a stun move) that occasionally gets missed also. I then discovered that using the Xbox Accessories
app allows me to "test" the controller, and when I hold down the B button, I can move my thumb around on it and get it to turn on and off depending on where my thumb is while normally holding the controller (these aren't major adjustments, I'm just wiggling
my thumb around on the button, really). So as long as I hit the button at the "correct" angle, it registers every time, but that "correct" angle is no longer natural to just pressing the button--I find I have to concentrate on how I'm pressing the button.

Shortly thereafter, I noticed my Right Bumper was double-tapping as I was navigating through some menus in a game (Anthem, I think, though many games have you use the bumpers to navigate through sub-menus). Back to the Xbox Accessories app for testing and
sure enough, it's doing the same thing the B button is doing--I essentially have to press the button a certain way instead of before when I just had to use the base of my finger to make it
click. As of a few days ago, my Left Bumper has followed suit. It's especially obvious in No Man's Sky, as the bumpers are mapped to roll your ship left or right. Holding down the Right Bumper as one naturally would, the ship will roll right for
a few degrees, stop, start again for a bit, stop, etc. etc. While not as bad, it's the same for the left, but I believe this is cumulative and will get worse if the Right Bumper is any indication.

During all my Xbox Accessories app testing, I also found my Right Stick sits off-center to the right. If I gently nudge it to the center, it centers. If I then press it to the right (as if in a game) and naturally let it return to its center position,
it sits off-center to the right.

This controller sees an average of 4 hours of use per day. It will very occasionally see 6 to 8 and some days sees none at all. It has not been dropped, thrown, hit, or otherwise abused, and in fact sits in its case when it's not in use. I feel like a
controller with the name Elite should withstand a lot more use. I keep imagining a streamer buying this controller and playing with it for 8 to 12 hours a day, and I am definitely not using it that heavily.

I have called Xbox Support to detail my problems and get warranty information, only to discover that Microsoft only warranties these things for 90 days, and they want to charge me $100 for a repair. I feel like this is a joke. Microsoft creates a controller
with the name Elite, sells it for nearly $200, then provides a warranty that basically says, "Yeah, this thing is going to fail after 3 months." I still have 3 original Xbox One controllers--the youngest of which is 3 years old--that still work flawlessly.
They each cost $60, but after a couple years of using the paddles, I'm spoiled and don't want to give them up. Anyhow, I asked for a supervisor to elevate my case, as I've owned every generation of Xbox console since the original (including countless games
and accessories from controllers to cables to recharge kits to hard drives), am an 8-year+ Xbox Gold (now Ultimate) Member, and have already given up 1 Elite Controller due to the "warranty" being expired. The person I spoke to claimed she didn't have a supervisor,
but would be happy to set up a time to have one call me. I agreed, gave her my contact info, and haven't heard anything back. This was on July 29th.

tl;dr My Elite Controller 2 has become rather unresponsive after around 6 months of use averaging around 4 hours per day. Microsoft wants $100 to repair a $195 controller. For $295, I could almost buy 5 regular controllers.

My question is, what would one of you do? Should I keep calling Xbox Support? Should I fork over the $100 for what I'm reasonably convinced will be a refurbished replacement? Are there any reliable resources for self-repair I can check out? Are there
any decent 3rd-party controllers with programmable paddles? Any advice on the matter is appreciated. Also, thank you if you read the whole thing, I tend to be a bit long-winded.

    :)

    Hi,

Thank you for sharing details of your concern. Sorry to know that you had this issue with Elite 2 Controller.

I'm afraid to say that Controllers warranty is 90 days. You can check that on this

    link
, once you click on your region from the list, a PDF will be downloaded.

    Answering your questions:

    >Should I keep calling Xbox Support?

You can but from my experience; you will get the same answer every time even if you talked to a supervisor.

    >Should I fork over the $100 for what I'm reasonably convinced will be a refurbished replacement?

That's correct. you will get a refurbished replacement if you agreed on paid exchange. It's also mentioned in the warranty terms if you downloaded the file.

    >Are there any reliable resources for self-repair I can check out?

    >Are there any decent 3rd-party controllers with programmable paddles?

Not that I know of personally, but You could check more about that online, If you would like to.

    Hope that helps !

    Salmoro--

Are you with Microsoft? If so, I was hoping for an answer from someone on the outside, that's why I posted the question to the community and not directly to the company. I am all too familiar with the company's stance on caring for its products and customers
(i.e. replacing a product that was purchased new at full price with a refurbished one).

    Hi,

Welcome to the worst nightmare off elite controller 2, i'm waiting for my 3rd one. I advice you to contact a lawer or understand your rights. Microsoft will keep fixing the problem with a refurbished one. And you will keep the same problem.

Why can't I buy Controller replacement parts in Australia?

As far as I know, the 20th Anniversary Halo controller is just an Elite 2 controller with a wrap on it so you need to look for Elite 2 parts
