I am fine with them doing this. If I do not like something that is being done I just do not support it by not purchasing.

I personally never buy used unless I run upon a game that cannot be had new anymore and it is cheap and I want to give it a try. And used games are thought to do a lot of damage to the industry. But there are a few things to consider:

    1. Used games are NOT guaranteed new sales if the used game did not exist.

    2. The value people get from used can help them buy another game they otherwise would not have purchased. So it can, and does, lead to more sales sometimes.

*Note considering 1 and 2 together we could see that used games can help more than it seems because someone sells a used copy of an older game to someone who cannot find a new copy. That money then gets used for purchasing new games. A good example of
this is when Amazon was giving double trade. I had some PS1-PS2-Xbox games they were paying way more than GameStop and where as good or better than eBay and places. On top of that they gave me 2x bonus since I traded in so much and they were games I had
sealed copies of anyway. So all that money went directly to another 360 and multiple games that I would not have purchased at the time. And I know others that have sold games around and supplemented their purchasing as well.

    3. There is still a large group of gamers who want to feel like they own their games. They want to be able to sell them, trade them, loan them, and things like that.

In the end though this game is an online game. When you purchase this you are purchasing the online rights to play the game. So when you use those you cannot really sell them. And I can see that with any online game. But some feel they should be able
to play online all they want (which cost money and resources to run) and then just pass it along to someone else by either giving it or trading.

Good post Guerro! I have bought used titles for games I would never ever have purchased new (therefore that sale never existed). Then on the atrength of that purchase bought subsequent tiles brand new. Good example being Assasins Creec, my used purchase
of the first AC led me to pick up every title since on release. The used games hurting Devs is a myth. As for ESO. Doesn't bother me really as it's an MMO and it's pretty standard model.

Just stick to your guns. Either do it or don't bring it up, so information gets leaked.

It's good that they've said it was incorrect. They would have alienated so many people and pretty much tarnish their name.

Still...I'm not interested in this game.

I agree. I'm one of those it would have alienated.

I use Gamefly. 90-95% of the games I'm not sure about, I rent first. EA lost multiple 'potential sales' to me when they started requiring those activation codes awhile back. I
boycotted them for awhile because of it.

JMO, but MMO's have a more prominent longevity factor for me. People put hundreds of hours in a character because... well, it's a MMO. Hence, it's not the type of game that I'm
going to just play for a '48 hr trial' or even a 2 week trial and make up my mind about it (If I'm on the fence about it, which I am with ESO). I want to know if it's still going to be appealing in a month, or, if I'll find the urge to return and spend another fair
chunk of time with it after playing something else for awhile.

I have been on the fence about ESO. Neverwinter actually helped me decide to give it a try since I have limited experience with MMO's anyway. If they had gone ahead with this 'code
requirement' for ESO and I couldn't have tried it without buying either it, or a code, I would have just as easily passed it over just for the point of it.

  11. This doesn't bother me that considering this is an mmo. It's only an issue I think because of the per-conception of what the game is now. They got rod of the sub but its not F2p so something needs to be salvaged. Honestly, it doesn't look that good anyways.

Used games can effect a studio. After all used games don't show up as a sold game for the publisher, this means that when they look at sales figures the game wasn't as popular as maybe it actually was.

So the publisher/investors look at sales and see whether it is worth investing as much in the developer's next game, or if it is worth keeping them open to make that next game in the first place.

I don't think used games are the threat that publishers makes out but I do believe that they can be a threat to studios straddling the line.

I'm talking directly about the defunct studios in the quote. 38/Big Huge and THQ went down because of some highly bizarre ownership issues, mismanagement on an epic scale and pouring god knows how many millions into uDraw. None of which are down to used
    games.
