Millions and millions of people have paid full price for a game and then a monthly subscription for PC MMO's for more than a decade. With EQ and WoW depending on how soon you started after an expansion it could have cost you 80 bucks to get all the content.

The fact they are bringing this to the console is what's going to kill it. Console crowd won't pay the monthly sub and the PC crowd won't play it because it has been "dumbed down" for the controller. Willing to bet it'll be free to play in 6 months.[/quote]

There could be changes made to make it more appealing. If they weren't asking for full game price for a start, but they are.

This game might be worth it if it was the only game you were gonna play... but if you've got a console, it's not.

You might say that putting it on a console is dumbing it down but the flip side is that the Console can turn this into an actual game instead of a "Point and Click Adventure" where the biggest challend you'll face is memorizing your 99 hot-key shortcuts
so you don't have to be burdened with actually controlling your character.

As far as the full game price, monthly sub and in game shop are concerned it's just not worth it.

Unless they have some serious discounts for subscriptions I hope this falls flat on it's face.

That statement is why the game is in trouble.

Console gamers want button mashers where you dodge and roll, FPS style targeting, etc. We already have dozens of those games on the console.

MMO's players want the depth that comes along with the end game of a MMO. Builds, rotations, team work, progression, etc. WoW has already dumbed that down which has caused most of the "hardcore raiders" to look for challenges elsewhere.

It's a genre that simply doesn't fit the average console gamer.

What console can you play WoW on?

It's not consoles or PC's that dumb games down.

It's developers. They try to find a balance between accessibility and depth of gameplay.

Look at magic it "Skyrim". They have made some amazing improvements but at the same time there are thousands of gamers on their knees, right now, shaking a fist in the air as the whisper hoarsley... "But at what price"?

Whether people are prepared to admit it or not ultimately it's not games that are dumbing down. It's the gamers playing them.

We're conditioned to think that we should get what we want immediately and so games have changed to reflect that cultural nuance.

In terms of Builds, rotations, team work and progression you'll get all that in TESO with or without consoles. But for today's gamer you won't have to worry about being skilled. You'll be rewarded just for showing up.

TESO is simply COD with swords and a monthly tax to keep playing.

WoW dumbed down MMO's on the PC ( or at least started the trend, most have been dumbed down now), I didn't mean that WoW was on a console.

Consoles dumb down MMO's ( RTS's too ) simply because of the controller. Your comment about 99 hotkeys isn't far from the truth. I've had as many as 40 hotkeys end game raiding with a healer in several MMO's. You can't reproduce that on the console.

I also agree it's the players that are mostly responsible for the dumbing down of games. The "instant gratification" generation has changed the face of gaming and in my opinion not for the better. It's why I have a GoG account,,,,I can still play games that
are challenging and require you to think. I have a console when I want to button mash with pretty graphics.

I enjoyed playing games such as Fallout 3 but find I don't have enough time to play the whole game and immerse myself in the world. Not only that, but to pay a month subscription to play a game on xbox live that we already pay for... no thank you Elder scrolls online imperial edition :) There
are many other games that will dominate in this space (multiplayer wise, at least) IMO.

I don't see why an in game shop would be a deal breaker it's not like they're going to force you to use it.

It's been done....Everquest, FF, DC Universe and probably a couple more that I can't think of at the moment.

They simply don't work well on the console. Just for chat purposes a keyboard is a must and that makes playing from the recliner a little more complicated. It's one of those genres like RTS's that should probably just stay on the PC.

It sounds more like they don't work the way you want them to on console.

"Defiance" is a great example of a free to play MMO that had no monthly sub fee and actually had an in game shop that enhanced the experience without adversely affecting Gameplay.

But if you're used to everything being a certain way, why would you want things to be different?

That just takes you out of your comfort zone so at least it's available on the PC for you.

Defiance is a MMO because it fits the technical definition of a MMO. Compare it to Trion's other MMO and you'll see that's it rather lacking.

People that have played the successful MMO's have expectations of what a MMO is. ESO needs the EQ, WoW, Rift crowd on board or it's in trouble, those are the people that will pay a monthly subscription.

It has nothing to do with taking me out of my comfort zone, I have 1000's of hours raiding in MMO's I have a pretty good grasp of what works and what doesn't.

I played Defiance at launch and the biggest issue right off the bat was the lack of being able to communicate, PS3 DC Universe had the same problem. MMO's are social and voice chat doesn't cut it.

This is why Guild Wars 2, or The Secret World should come to consoles. Their styles would suit the console crowd very well.

    Shame it will never happen.

GW2 would be an excellent MMO to bring to the console. It has enough depth to keep the PC MMO players happy and enough twitch to keep the console crowd happy plus no subscription. It may get some resistance with the micro-transactions but they have to make
a buck somewhere to pay for servers and additional content.

Your 1000's of hours raiding give you a pretty good grasp of what you like and the models that suit your tastes.

The biggest issue for "Defiance" right off the bat is that you were restricted to geographic servers, meaning you couldn't play with your mates overseas.

In TESO they will allow you access to overseas servers but what they've been a little quieter about is that your character is RESTRICTED to the server you create them on, meaning that unless you and your buddies all create your characters on the same server
    you're never gonna meet.

Eventually they got "Defiance" to the point that your character was stored online and you could take them to whichever server you wanted. They also sorted out communication allowing you to chat with the general population and Group Chat was available pretty
    early on.

There's much more that's killed TESO for me than just the greedy subscription fee though.

Meaningless characters who can be re-speced on a whim and no danger areas lead to a game with no real risk and no real reward for anything but simply showing up.

In a nutshell it's looking alarmingly like "The Elder Scrolls: COD".
