Elder Scrolls Online ditches subscription fee!

"After months of speculation and the exclusion of three and six month subscription options, The Elder Scrolls Online on both PC and consoles will be heading towards a new buy-to-play option, with an optional subscription method available to those wanting
bonus in-game items.

Zenimax are also offering existing players of Elder Scrolls Online for PC a free copy of the console version, though new players will have to make a one-time purchase for either the console version or PC version. The new version will be available on PC come
March 17th."

OMG I must have missed this news somehow. The fee was the only thing that was going to stop me from picking this up. I'm wicked pumped!

 

Bowski. Same here, I had pretty much made myself forget about this game until now, quite excited about playing it though now.

 

Question. I already own the PC version of this game. I will start playing again when it goes f2p since I already own it in march. My question is that when I do my free console upgrade thing will I be able to play on both my laptop and my Xbox One or is
it like FFXIV where you have to buy two separate copies of the game in order to play on multiple platforms with the same account.

 

I think the biggest testament to what "The Elder Scrolls Online" is actually like...

Is the fact that you're not allowed to discuss it on the Official Bethesda Forums.

You may only discuss it in the official TES Forums on the Official TES site...

Which in turn you may only access if you are subscription paying owner of the game.

I'll maybe give it a go when it hits the bargain basket.

Mind you the XBox TWO might be on shelves before the console version actually releases.

 

I can see this going completely free to play after awhile like DCUO. I wont be sucked into buying a game that will be free in 6 months.

Games like this dont seem to fair to well on consoles.

 

It may not be the greatest game in the ES series, but I just love Elder Scrolls.

So I know i'll have fun with it, and at least have something to hold me over till the next real installment.

 

Anyone know if they are gonna merge the servers or is it all still gonna be separated

 

I haven't really been involved in their community for awhile so not sure but I would assume they will just keep it as separate US and EU megaservers.

 

Too little too late in my book. They should've ditched the fee last year and released last June like it was supposed too. I'll be busy in June anyway with Batman and Witcher 3.

I was thinking I may add it to my rental que after and only after they dropped the ridiculous sub fee... was being the key word. But now that you've mentioned Batman and Witcher
3, well, I don't keep track of release dates as much as I'd like but those will definitely get my attention first. Too little too late indeed.

 

If you haven't already played this on PC then I wouldn't really suggest you go out of your way to buy it but for those of us who have already played it on PC it is basically just a free port so why wouldn't we pick it up again.

 

While the adds for this game are really spectacular...

It's another nail in the coffin that they don't actually feature gameplay footage.

 

PS4 gameplay has been live streamed by the developers. I don't think I saw Xbox One footage though.
